Birchbox UK – April 2019

Birchbox UK April 2019 unboxing

A Birchbox subscriber’s year so far has been a pretty sweet one, if you ask me. Every month has gifted us with at least 2 full size products – with February’s box giving us ALL full-size products! Each box has also been at least double the value of the price I’ve paid for it. So my point is, Birchbox UK April can’t let us down now. Can it?

Being a Birchbox UK subscriber for a few years now, I’ve noticed the start of the year usually brings the best boxes. As we head into spring and summer, the boxes are still good but not total bangers like their previous. This kind of sets a scene for this box, as I explain below.

The theme this month isn’t obviously about Easter or spring, which is kind of refreshing. Instead it’s simply You’re a gem, apparently inspired by the healing power of crystals. I’m not really sure what else to say about that, other than we didn’t receive any healing crystals in this month’s box.

What I can say is that April continues the “at least 2 full size items in the box” trend (a trend I’ve only just conjured up from looking back at this year’s boxes so far.) So that’s a positive! Although this doesn’t mean the other products aren’t worth getting excited about, because they are.

Excuse the pun, but there’s a few gems in here…

ESTATE Cosmetics Baked Highlighter (FULL SIZE!)
Despite its bright pastel-like appearance, this doesn’t apply too strobe-y, if you know what I mean? So don’t let the colour put you off. The accompanying leaflet reads that this has a sheer, light texture and is buildable, which I think is completely fair. Looks like my summer highlighter is sorted!

Benefit The POREfessional
I’ve ashamedly never tried this much-loved primer before. Although *unpopular opinion alert* I’m not blown away by it now that I’ve tried it. It is definitely smoothing and it seems to melt onto the surface of my skin when applying. But I don’t find it very hydrating, which lets it down.

Vitamasques Diamond Eye Pads (FULL SIZE!)
Oh I love a good eye mask! And this one is definitely the bling-iest one I’ve ever tried. (I HAD TO take a picture to show you. Seriously, I think I could get away with wearing it to a music festival?!) After de-weeding my garden I felt like I needed a pamper, so I had a shower and gave this a go. I’m glad to say that all the sparkle is for good reason, my eyes definitely felt and looked brighter after using this!

Human+Kind Body Souffle
I used this in the same pamper session I just mentioned and I completely understand why its called a souffle. The texture was really light and it just melted into my skin as I applied it, instead of sitting on top like a creamy moisturiser. It’s perfect for the warmer weather as it didn’t stick to clothes either, and it smells great too!

Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment
I was literally so pleased to see this brand in Birchbox UK April 2019 – SO pleased! Aveda is not cheap, so I’m so thankful to try any sample from this brand. Again, in the same pamper session, I used this after de-weeding the garden and it felt like it done my hair some good. Although I reckon I’ll have to keep using this for a few weeks before I see the full benefit.

Box round up

Although I’m still not totally over February’s box (where every product was full size), this month’s box has still been a winner in my opinion. What I love about Birchbox is that I can try hyped up products (the POREfessional) and expensive brands (Aveda) before buying them. As well as trialling new brands I haven’t discovered yet (Estate cosmetics, Vitamasques and Human+Kind)!

May sneak peak: we’ll see the return of Lord & Berry next month, which might make some people groan. But with a choice out of a lip pencil or eyeliner, I already know the choice I’m going to make!
