Birchbox UK – August 2017

Bircbox UK August 2017

Waking up this past Saturday I was expecting a few things to happen.  I was expecting my hangover from the night before (I’d been day drinking at a wedding – that never bodes well).  I was also expecting it to rain, which it did, thunderously on my way to the hairdressers.  What I wasn’t expecting was my Birchbox UK August 2017 to bouncily arrive on time, if not early, through my door.

Whilst the palm trees and sunshine feels were back in last month’s Birchbox, seeing its arrival no doubt cheered me up, despite the weather and the hangover.

Birchbox UK August 2017 Unboxing

It’s hard to avoid the theme with printed scales all over this month’s box.  For August, it’s all about ‘Mermaid Vibes’.  However, it’s not the first time I’ve seen a Birchbox theme to be inspired by mermaids, I’ve got to say.

Back in November 2015 (throwback!), a box of a very similar colour scheme was adorned in mermaid-esque shells, or clams, whatever you’d like to call them.  Although in spite of this the theme was confusingly labelled ‘squad goals’ – nothing at all to do with mermaids.  Still, there’s no complaints from me, Skinny Dip collaborated with Birchbox those many months ago and I got some money off my own mermaid inspired shell bag!

I knew from last month’s teaser that we’d be given a full size Spectrum Collections make up brush.  (This makes the third one in my Birchbox subscription history.)  As for the other products;

Spectrum Collections A05 (FULL SIZE!)
Nuxe Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer
Vita Coco Coconut Oil
Number 4 Sugar Texturizing Spray
LOC One and Done Shadow Stick (FULL SIZE!)

Going back to my expectations for the weekend, I wasn’t expecting Birchbox to please me as much as it did either!

Alright so I knew about the Spectrum Collections brush, I opted for the pink colour choice (the brush is available in different colours, depending on which set it belongs to).  The brush has multiple uses, all of which involve the finishing touches in make up application; applying highlighter, bronzer or even setting powder.

As soon as I caught a glimpse of the Nuxe Dry Oil Shimmer I was really excited about trying it.  I had my eyes on this for a while and it might just have MADE this box for me.  On initial swatches and application (above!) this provides a gorgeous, subtle shimmer.  Perfect for those summer spray tans I pan on getting (or already have, if you haven’t noticed).

The LOC Shadow Stick was also a complete surprise too.  Being a brand created by Birchbox themselves, we do get treated sometimes with their full size products.  This is such a wearable colour in my opinion and I will be putting the ’11 hour wear’ claim to the test.

Box Round-Up 💜

I think Birchbox UK August 2017 has delivered yet another great box.  Once again there’s a varied mix of products with not one feeling like a weak link. We’re still on a roll too with receiving a full size product in every box since April!  (Correction: two full size products in this box, totalling £14.99.)

Next month will bring (divert your eyes if you want avoid to avoid any spoilers now) another product from Manna Kadar Cosmetics.  (Don’t remember?  Look back to Birchbox UK April 2017.)  I was impressed with the last item I received, so I’m taking this as only as good news…

Birchbox UK – July 2017

Birchbox UK July 2017 flatlay

It’s when my shorts and sandals are getting more wear than my usual jeans and trainers that I start to realise summer has finally landed.  As I’m really getting into the swing of warmer weather I look forward to the added extras I do around my usual beauty regime.

Such as adding SPF protection, contemplating whether I should pack my bikini (I live by the sea) and of course not going anywhere without some sunglasses.  Receiving my Birchbox during these months is also something I look forward to.

Being a subscriber for a couple of years now, I’ve noticed the summer months bring a different kind of variety of samples that are perfect for this season.  Winter does too of course, but summer feels that bit more special (probably because we don’t get enough of it!).

That said, here’s my Birchbox UK July 2017 unboxing.

Birchbox UK July 2017

The theme being ‘Summer Daze’, it’s no surprise the box has been adorned with a dreamy Calfornian sunset.  The box design was actually voted for in a competition, which I clearly missed during my ridiculously busy June.  But I’m fairly confident this must have been the best one!

Plus we (as Birchbox subscribers) knew we were also going to receive another sample from Benefit, a brand born in San Francisco.  So it makes sense to have a box design to tribute that.

Samples

Birchbox UK July 2017 Benefit ChaChaTint sample

As I’d mentioned in last month’s unboxing post, we were given a choice between two Benefit lip & cheek tints; either the ChaCha tint or the GoGo.  As I’m quite pastey fair in skin tone, I find orangey reds suit me, so I opted for the ChaCha tint!  (Not just for the cheerful name.)  Although I love this, unfortunately it’s not full size but that doesn’t mean I’ve missed out on a full size item this month…

Benefit Chacha tint
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler (FULL SIZE!)

Percy & Reed Wonder Overnight Recovery
Native Unearthed Natural Mineral Deodorant Balm
Kensie Eau de Parfum
Balance Me Flash Cleanse Micellar Water

I was surprised to see the Tangle Teezer brush in my box after some subscribers receiving the Wet Brush a few months ago. Nevertheless I’m not complaining, it’s a full size product after all.  I also already own a Tangle Teezer brush that works great, so gaining a spare to pop in an overnight bag makes packing easier!

Another surprise was the Natural Deodorant Balm.  Since filming this video I’ve given this a go and it smells lovely.  It makes me feel fresh and doesn’t irritate my skin either.  The only let down was when the realisation dawned on me that it’s just a deodorant, not an anti-perspirant. So I’ll still have to use my regular roll on!  (Maybe an anti-perspirant balm would be a good idea?)

Conclusion

I’m impressed with Birchbox keeping up the (at least one) full size winning streak for Birchbox UK July 2017 – we’re on a four month roll!  On top of that, we can expect a full size item next month too. (The sneak peek reveals a choice of a Spectrum make up brush!)

With the price of the Tangle Teezer brush equalling £12.50, this pays off the price I paid for my box.  Another highlight is the Benefit ChaCha Tint (worn above!), despite it not being full size, I still love the refreshing pop of colour which will keep me going long after summer too.

Birchbox UK – June 2017

Birchbox UK June 2017

I’ve fallen off the blogging wagon for the last few weeks (sorry!), but if there’s one post/video I never skip it’s Birchbox!  We’re onto Birchbox UK June 2017 already, which is another reminder to me that this year is just slipping away.

As for all my complaints in the last few months about my Birchbox being delivered late, I actually received it on time.  And oh yeah, it’s a Birchbag this month, not a Birchbox.

Birchbox UK June 2017 👇🏻

I knew from last month that a Birchbag would be on its way to me, instead of a box, as our choice was to choose between two colour combinations of bag we’d liked to receive. (Birchbox claim we’ll make a choice every month this year, which will be either choice of box design or choice of product.)

The month’s theme is ‘Daytripping‘ and the Birchbag has been inspired by those UK summer day trips to somewhere like Brighton.  It sounds a bit flash in the pan, but there is a point behind it…  All Birchbox subscribers are also treated to an exclusive voucher from Trouva this month, (as well as receiving the usual 6 samples)!

I’d never heard of the website, but apparently it’s an online store full of independent boutiques from across the UK!  Like Amazon, but with no chains.  Something that does actually sound like my kind of Birchbag. 😉

Samples

Birchbox UK June 2017

As I said last month, there were absolutely no clues, teasers or giveaways as to what the samples were going to be for Birchbox UK June 2017!  So, now I can finally reveal them, find out below to see what I received this month (including 2 FULL SIZE items, again!):

Scrub Love Coffee Body Scrub
Cowshed Cow Pat Hand Cream (FULL SIZE!)
Korres Milk Proteins 3-in-1 Cleansing Emulsion
MeechNMia Brow Liner (FULL SIZE!)
AAROW Enhance Waterproof Eyeliner in Bright Now

You’ll be forgiven if you were thinking my featured image (above!) is looking a little sparse.  The one product (that is also full size!) Birchbox UK seem to be bragging about the most in June was actually missing from my box.

Unfortunately I couldn’t show you the MeechNMia Brow Liner in the video because of this.  However, after I pinged Birchbox an email this is now on its way to me as I type, so no troubles there.

Despite this lapse, I quite like the variety of products this month.  The Body Scurb is what intrigues me the most from them all.  I haven’t ‘got dirty’ with it yet, but I’ve side aside some time this weekend to do so.

Conclusion

Birchbox UK June 2017

I’ve not yet talked about receiving two full size items for the second, no wait, third time in a row!  The Cowshed hand cream (despite the fact I already own it) and the Brow Liner add to a total of £20.99, which is almost twice the value of my box.

As well as this, we already have something to look forward to next month too. One of Birchbox’s favourite brands to work with is returning once again!  (Can you guess what it is yet?)  Although it hasn’t been that long since we last received a Benefits goodie (only back in March I believe), I’m not complaining, as I do enjoy Benefits products.  So I’ve already opted for the Cha Cha tint.  I love corals in summer… bring on July!

Birchbox UK – May 2017

Birchbox UK May 2017 unboxing

The sad news is my Birchbox UK May 2017 box was late, just like April’s.  The good news is there were two full size items inside!  So I didn’t feel too disappointed.

As my box was late the design wasn’t a surprise to me, thanks to it being plastered all over my Instagram feed.  But luckily most of the samples remained a mystery…

Birchbox UK May 2017 👇🏻

This month’s theme is ‘it’s all in the details‘ and this month Birchbox say they want to zoom into on all the small things in subscriber’s lives. Meaning they want to make little tweaks to our beauty regimes that’ll improve our everyday overall.

That’s not the only tweak Birchbox have made, they’ve actually made a fairly big change to their service; a newly launched loyalty programme!  But first, the samples…

Samples

Birchbox UK May 2017 review

Birchbox UK May 2017 had a little to live up to compared to last months box.  Although I knew already one full size item I’d be receiving, I wasn’t expecting a second!  Find out below what I received and click on the links to find out more details:

Marsh Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting (FULL SIZE!)
Whish Firming Body Cream
Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume
Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara
SKIN79 Clean-on 2 Step Nose Pack (FULL SIZE!)

Now for my own little detail with what I thought of the products!  I opted for the Vanilla Frosting colour for the Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow because I already had enough grey/black smokey eyeshadows and eyeshadow sticks.  Plus it’s a great addition for crazy festival make up!

The Marsk eyeshadow also linked up nicely with the mascara.  Doucce are not a brand I know, but I LOVE the fact they’ve described their mascara as punk!

The Whish body cream and Kueshi will be used as usual and might not bring any major revelations to my routine.  However the SKIN79 2 step nose pack looks a lot of fun to me!  I can’t wait to try it.

Hello Birchbox Benefits!

Birchbox UK May 2017 what's inside

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber now for around three years (I know, three years!) and it was great to hear I was finally going to be rewarded.  Birchbox Benefits is a new loyalty programme that rewards subscribers who’ve been with Birchbox for six months or more!

We get much of the same benefits as all subscribers, such as choosing a product or your box design every month and free delivery when we review our boxes.  But we have these two added little extras too:

  • First Chance to choose our product or box design.
  • 15% off everything in the Birchbox Shop.

Personally, I’m really pleased to see this introduced.  I’m already a big fan of the ASOS points scheme, now if only TopShop would follow suit…

Conclusion

The two full size items in my Birchbox UK May 2017 box add up to an impressive £17,39, more than the total of my box!  It’s hard not to be happy when that happens.

Currently there are absolutely no teasers, clues or hints on what we might have in store for next month’s Birchbox.  Although here’s hoping it’ll arrive on time for me at least!

Birchbox UK – April 2017

Birchbox UK April 2017 Boden Collaboration

Birchbox UK April 2017 has landed and the air already feels a bit warmer and the sun brighter.  As soon as I read Birchbox UK were collaborating with Boden for their April 2017 box I was super excited!

Despite never being a Boden customer (although I’ve wanted to, I need more cash please!), I thought this is a dream pairing.  Watch my Birchbox UK April 2017 unboxing video below:

Birchbox UK April 2017 👇🏻

This month’s theme is ‘The Bold and the Beautiful‘ and just look how much LIFE this print brings to my blog!  I’ve mentioned Birchbox teamed up with Boden this month, so it’s no real surprise Boden are behind the gorgeous floral design.

This same design will be one of Boden’s key prints for the upcoming season, which I think is a fantastic idea!  Although it might be a bit too bold for me, thoughts?

Samples

Birchbox UK April 2017 samples

I thought Birchbox and Boden are a dream pairing enough, until I discovered the fantastic samples packed inside!  Below are the samples I received (2 of which are FULL SIZE!), click on the links to find out more details:

Nib + Fab Colour Correcting Concealer (FULL SIZE!)
Polaar IcePure Gentle Scrub with Arctic Cotton
Baija Paris Crème Moana in Fleur de Tiarè
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Volumizing Lifting Spray
Manna Kadar Cosmetics High Definition Power (FULL SIZE!)

Oh my goodness me!  (Something I kept saying in the video…)  After being left a little disappointed after last month’s box, Birchbox UK April 2017 box has definitely pulled it all back!

I’m really pleased to receive the Nip + Fab Colour Correcting Concealer.  I’ve never used a colour corrector before or any product from this brand.

I’m also happy to receive my choice of Manna Kadar product.  I opted for the High Definition setting powder, over the bronze/highlight duo.  Mostly because I am so intrigued by this product because I’ve never tried any form of high definition make-up!  Unfortunately I couldn’t try this on in the video, so please comment below if you’re after an individual review.

Added Little Extras…

Birchbox UK April 2017 Boden Collaboration

Being a lucky Birchbox UK subscriber I was offered a few added extras – bare with me, there’s quite a few!

First up, before the box even arrived I was offered the chance to buy a discounted Boden branded cardholder.  When big brands team up with Birchbox I tend to take them up on these offers.  This time I got my hands on the above cardholder for £8, down from £15.

As you can see, another extra for me is being treated to £10 off a Boden shop!  Oh, I will be using this, there’s no question about it.

Finally, I’m yet to enter the monthly competition and it’s a good’un this month.  If I snap a picture of my Birchbox on Instagram (and ensure I tag and hashtag all the right handles…), then I could win a £200 Boden voucher and £200 worth of beauty essentials from the Birchbox shop.  Hell yeah, that’s a good comp!

Conclusion 🌼

WELL if you can’t tell I’m back on the Birchbox train and flying a flag of subscriber pride this month.  I think this box has been a HUGE success, ticking off every box for design, samples and collaborator.

I’m not usually fussed over the added extras, but this month Birchbox and Boden have really gone all out.  I appreciate that, long may it continue!
