New Purchases Show & Tell – May 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell May 2017

Here I am at the end of the month again!  For my New Purchases Show & Tell May 2017 I’ve been buying a few festival items to get me ready for Glastonbury.  (Not long now eee!)

I’m being sensible though and buying strictly festival essentials at the moment, it’s not quite time to gather in all the fun bits just yet.  Such as the face glitter, colour hair crayons and a pineapple drinking flask (this is actually on my wishlist.)

I’ve also been picking up some interesting reads this month too.  It’s been a while since I’ve bought paperback, so watch my video below to find out which books have caught my eye!

New Purchases Show & Tell May 2017

Time for the run down…

Power Bank Pilot – 23 seconds in
I hope I’m not judged by hardcore festival goers for bringing my phone to a festival.  But get this – my network provider EE used to dish out portable phone chargers for free at Glastonbury, back in 2015, FREE.  That all changed last year when they asked for £25 for them!  Well, I didn’t want to end up queueing at the free phone charging points again, so hellooo 20,000 MAH worth of CHARGE!

Hunter Wellies in Black Gloss

Hunter Wellies – 1:20 minutes in
I can’t shake the feeling I’ve sold out by buying some Hunter wellies, especially as there wasn’t anything wrong with my old wellies.  However, I did have some blisters pop up last year and they say spending a little extra on shoes is always a good investment for your feet.  Plus, there were plenty of Hunter advocates in the private Facebook group GLASTO CHAT that were singing their praises!  So I thought I’d treat myself, and my feet…

Want to listen to some of the bands I’m aiming to see at Glastonbury?  Click here for my Spotify playlist!

Ole Henriksen the Cleansing Truth cleansing cloths – 2:40 minutes in
Now here’s a brand I discovered through Birchbox and have become quite impressed with.  I don’t bother taking my whole skincare routine to somewhere like a music festival, because seriously what’s the point?  I don’t usually like facial wipes either because they usually break me out and make my skin generally hideous.  However, these ones get my make up off whilst lightly cleansing my skin and are worth the bit extra!

The Girls by Emma Cline – 3:31 minutes in
I read about this book from an Estée Lalonde blog post, or video, I can’t remember which.  What I do remember her saying though is if cults or the Manson family interest you, then this book is for you.  So this book is for me.

New Purchases Show & Tell May 2017 flat lay

An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery – 4:10 minutes in
I started following John Bills through WordPress a looong time ago now.  What kept me a follower was his fantastic ‘An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery’ series.  A history which feels very much unexplored and although mostly grim, John brings humour and panache to each Slav to have ever made history’s story.  Pre-order the book here!

Ctrl Alt Delete by Emma Gannon – 4:50 minutes in
I fricking love Emma Gannon.  I’ve been binge listening (if that’s a thing) her podcast of the same name ever since I’ve discovered it.  So when it came to buying her book I felt like I just needed it in paperback or hardback.  I still love my Kindle, but this book felt special and one I’d be proud to display on my bookshelf.  If you haven’t heard of this book or Emma’s podcast you must do so, NOW!

Next month…

I wasn’t joking when I said there’s a pineapple drinking flask on my wishlist (there’s a mermaid shell one too!).  So you can expect the fun festival essentials next month, after I’ve returned from Glastonbury (nooo then there’s the 2 year wait until the next one!).

If you have any recommendations or suggestions based on what I’ve been buying and loving above, please feel free to leave a comment below!  I’d love to hear from you.

New Purchases Show & Tell – April 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017

Forgive me for the following click baity sentence to open this post, but, I think I’ve bought THE BEST purchase I’ve made so far this year!

It’s another purchase getting me excited and ready for summer!  (Although I know that statement is a little premature; it’s freezing right now in England.)

Instead of relying on the weather though, because there’s no guarantee of clear blue skies even in June (oops there’s a clue!), it’s more the memory and smiles it’ll leave behind that I’m most looking forward to…

I can’t contain it much longer, watch my video or read below to find out!

New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017

Don’t worry, I haven’t saved the BEST to last.

Glastonbury Festival 2017 tickets! – 13 seconds in
THIS is the purchase I’m talking about!  When tickets first went on sale last October and myself and my friends unfortunately lucked out, I started to worry this might actually be the year we don’t make it to Glastonbury.  But with a lot of determination (and tapping the refresh button to an inch of its life!) we gave it another shot in the resale and GOT THEM!  I am SO excited, Glastonbury related content may be on the agenda in the next few weeks…

GHD Curve Soft Curl Tong – 1:07 minutes in
I’m also really excited about this purchase.  I’ve been wanting to create that Pinterest worthy hair for a long time and the cheap curling tongs I already had just weren’t cutting it.  Based on the success of my GHD straighteners (that are still going strong after 7 years…) I splashed out on one of the brand’s curling tongs.  So far, so good.  Watch this space for hair tutorials and my full review!

TOPSHOP Petite Embroidered Body – 2:04 minutes in
Looking at this yes I know I may be betting on a good summer, but I couldn’t let this slip away to the dreaded ‘out of stock’ status while I sat around waiting for sunshine.  I’m glad I whipped it up when I did too, as it’s no longer available in TopShop’s Petite range.  When the suns does eventually come out, I’ll happily be pairing this with my Ray-Ban’s.

Clarins Paris Everlasting Foundation – 2:41 minutes in
I hit empty on my last foundation, on the day of a friend’s wedding no less! A dire situation indeed, so I hurried to the nearest beauty counter I could to replace it.  This is my first ever full coverage foundation, which I’ve avoided until now.  I guess I was a bit scared of it looking weird on me, a bit caked on like a china doll?  I don’t go full air hostess mode but I’m starting to come round to a full coverage look.

Freedom Finer Ring Set – 3:28 minutes in
I really thought I’d seen this before, with the amount of times I snoop around TopShop.  But nope, this must have slipped my usual reconnaissance!  I love jewellery that’s more delicate and dainty so I had to buy these when I saw them.  I’ll also be keeping a check at the Freedom stand for other finer jewellery.

The People v O.J. Simpson – 3:55 minutes in
I can’t get my mind off this case.  I heard this was a great series to watch and boy has it sucked me in!  I’ve even got myself and my boyfriend watching the mammoth documentary series O.J.: Made in America – seriously, we’re hooked.  Going back to the People v O.J. Simpson on Netflix though, there’s a brilliant A-list cast who act out this unbelievable story. It’s incredible!

Next month…

As you can probably guess, there’ll be a few Glastonbury bits to add to my list.  Like one of the essentials for Glastonbury is of course a sturdy pair of wellies!  Mine have seen the last two Glastonbury’s, along with other festivals before that and so it might be time to buy a newer pair.  (Should I go Hunter’s?  Leave your comments or suggestions below!)

New Purchases Show & Tell – March 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell March 2017

Catch up & Watch

Spring has sprung, sort of, and it’s time for my New Purchases Show & Tell March 2017!  It’s around the time of year I usually start daydreaming about warmer days ahead and what I might plan for summer…

I’ve certainly done the daydreaming part, as for summer plans there is a little something I’ve planned and purchased this month.  Find out below!

New Purchases Show & Tell March 2017

If my video isn’t NSFW then no worries, I’ve written a list below about what appears in my video.

Stardew Valley – 18 seconds in
I had no other option but to talk about this game first – as if my video thumbnail isn’t obvious enough!  I downloaded my first ever game from Steam, which is very exciting!  Way back on Playstation 1 and 2 I loved the Harvest Moon games and I miss them sorely.  So a work friend recommended me Stardew Valley, a game that’s apparently better than them both!  I know, quite a statement.  I’m enjoying it so far though and it was only £10!  Downloadable for both Mac and PC.

Gorillaz / Demon Dayz Festival tickets – 1:41 minutes in
Okay, this is what I was talking about in regards to making the first of my summer plans.  When I first heard news of this gig I had to get my hands on tickets.  Margate is just a stones throw away for me so how could I not go to the town’s, or even the county’s, biggest gig of the YEAR?!  It’s going to be awesome and I’ll try my best to vlog it.

TopShop PETITE Bow Back Body – 2:40 minutes in
…and the remaining New Purchases Show & Tell items don’t seem quite as exciting after that!  This top was another bargain winner for me, I tried it on in Oxford Street’s TopShop and wasn’t convinced to spend £24 on it.  I then saw it in the sale not too long after and whipped it up.  All I need now is some matching ballerina-like pumps!

Zara Floral Lace Top (not exact name) – 3:06 minutes in
The same day I luckily got the chance to stroll around Oxford Street I’d ventured into Zara too, which seems like a shop I haven’t been into for a long time.  I spotted this on the Last Chance to Buy rail and thought it looked too pretty to miss.  I think it’s definitely versatile as a ‘nice top’ for festival season and the boho trend.

H&M Basics Jumper (again not exact name) – 3:37 minutes in
Lately the weather has been quite sunny, so I feel a bit silly showing this to you.  But, at the time of purchase it was rainy and summer, or spring even, still felt a long while off.  Big chunky and cosy jumpers are probably the clothing item I wear the most, so buying one more can’t hurt right?

Next month…

New Purchases Show & Tell March 2017 owl teddy and macbook pro with stardew valley

In last month’s New Purchases Show & Tell I did set out to buy some Nars make up.  As you can see that didn’t happen, so it’s now moved over to this month’s list instead.

I also mentioned that I was tempted by a GHD curling tong, as I’m growing my hair longer I really want to master the art of waves.  I do have my own curling tongs already but they just don’t seem to cut it (and GHD have never let me down).

Hopefully next month I would have made a few more summer plans too.  Only time will tell!

New Purchases Show & Tell – February 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell February 2017

Catch up & watch

I’m onto the next New Purchases Show & Tell February 2017 already!  Other than Valentine’s Day, I can’t say a great deal has happened this month but it’s flown by.

I’ve been keeping up my promise (not only to me, but to you too) to try and buy things that are more varied in the hopes of making this series a little more interesting…

New Purchases Show & Tell February 2017

Now for the detail!

So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson – 21 seconds in
As I mentioned in the video, this was quite an interesting read particularly aimed at social media.  Albeit in a negative light, it’s really incredible how our life online can affect everything around us.  It’ll make you think twice the next time you tweet about anything. Fact.

H&M iPhone 6/6s Phone Case – 1:23 minutes in
One Saturday I was standing in the queue at H&M when, all of a sudden, I was drawn to this very phone case!  Don’t laugh at me, I try to be all professional on the outside, but on the inside I still like pink, glittery cute things.  The fact I’ve had so many compliments on this phone case proves I’m not the only one too!

Benefit They’re Real Mascara! – 2:14 minutes in
As if I need to add more detail about this mascara, everyone already knows this mascara!  I received a tester a long time ago once upon a Birchbox.  I remember being impressed then, so I picked it up on a whim.

New Purchases Show & Tell February 2017

Clinque Line Smoothing Concealer – 2:31 minutes in
If you’ve read my Clinque Airbrush Concealer review then you’ll already know why I’ve picked this up.  This is such a creamy concealer, which I hope to post a full review on soon.

Clinque Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser – 2:42 minutes in
This was not on my shopping list whatsoever, but one of those Clinque ‘free gift bag’ deals were on!  I’m so glad I gave this a shot, I might even be as bold to claim it’s replaced my favourite ever tinted moisturiser.  It provides a really lovely finish and feels weightless.  A full review might be in the pipeline for this too, I love it!

Urban Decay Naked 3 eyeshadow palette – 3:05 minutes in
*choir voices sing!* Oh yes, as I mentioned in my previous New Purchases Show & Tell blog post for January, I was planning a trip to an Urban Decay counter this month and that I did!  I had a £50 Debenhams voucher to spend and I just had to buy an Urban Decay eyeshadow palette, but which one?  After some deliberation between this and the smokey eye palette, I opted for the safer, everyday colours bet.  I can’t wait to get started with this!

Spornette 3″ Provo Collection Round Brush – 4:14 minutes in
Everyone’s raving about the Wet Brush at the moment and I’m sorry to say I haven’t tried it.  I am, however, trying this – a real boar bristled brush.  After seeing a friend’s amazingly silky hair and her swearing by this brush, I had to get it.  Update soon!

Topshop PETITE Red Spot Mini Tea Dress – 5:17 minutes in
Another month, another Topshop dress.  Topshop are just so on it right now with dresses, I need to stop checking the app before I buy the whole petite range!  This dress is just lovely though, and I think I can definitely wear it now and when the weather gets a bit warmer too.

Next Month…

I’ve always wanted to try Nars and their foundations, so I’m planning a trip to a Nars counter sometime this month.  I know I made a few beauty purchases this time and I want to keep this varied, so I will be on the lookout for other things other than make up.  (Remember: recommendations always welcome!)

Other than that, I’ve been recommended a game I might like… the only game I’ve included in this series is an app.  This game, however, is a PC/Mac game – but more on that come the end of March!

New Purchases Show & Tell – January 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2017

Catch up & watch

It’s my first one of the year!  My New Purchases Show & Tell January 2017 video and blog post in trying to start the year off right.

If you don’t know by now, I post a video and blog post every month showing and telling you all about my new purchases I bought that month.

I really want to make this series something good for this year, so watch on to see how I’ve started off this year.

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2017

As well as a video, I write a follow up blog post detailing the items I got too:

Eve Lom Cleanser – 31 seconds in
This was my naughty little treat I bought at the very start of this year and probably my first proper high-end skincare product.  I’d never usually spend anywhere close to £55 on a cleanser, but with a few Birchbox points saved up and Vogue once naming it “possibly the best cleanser in the world”; I was sold.  It does indeed feel very luxurious and melts away like no other cleanser I’ve tried.  My full and proper review to come soon.

Nike Woman’s Air Pegasus – 2:06 minutes in
This is NOT a New Year Resolution, new year new me, fitness thing, trust me!  I’ve ran before and my now ex-running shoes are totally beat (if I can shamelessly pinch that Americanism.)  I found going to a running shop to try on different fits and having my gait checked was so helpful.  I recommend it to anyone who wants to start running, although I’m yet to properly go out for a run in these…  When is the weather supposed to be clearing up again?

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2017 Nike Air Pegasus Running shoes

Moleskine Square Notebook – 3:43 minutes in
In all honesty, I vowed I’d start a bullet journal before it has seemingly exploded everywhere.  Or has it just exploded for me since I started one?  Who knows!  Basically I can create my own diary system and there’s no real rules about how I should use it.  For a project so big to keep me organised, I couldn’t resist buying a Moleskine notebook.  The squared pages help me draw grids, boxes etc.  (Read here and here for more Bullet Journal stuff!)

TopShop PETITE Spot Flute Sleeve Dress Dress – 4:50 minutes in
Being broke from Christmas and New Year didn’t stop me from buying some beautiful clothes!  This is one of two dresses I had to have right away from when I first saw them pop up on the TopShop app.  This one is actually a bit of a smock dress, which I’m really not used to but I’m slowly falling in love with.  I can easily dress this up or down.

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2017 TopShop Flute Sleeve Dresses

TopShop PETITE Peony Tie Sleeve Dress – 5:31 seconds in
THIS dress went straight into my online bag too, no questions asked.  I think it’s such a beautiful mix of colours, with some other lovely features I didn’t get to show fully in the video.  The dress has tie up sleeves, all the way down the arm, before blooming into a mental flute sleeve at the end.  (Crazier than the flute sleeve to the previous dress – I never knew I would love these!)  It also has a tie around the stomach, a slit in the back and a pretty white petticoat underneath I just love.  My dream dress so far this year!

Next Month…

I’m yet to spend a Debenhams £50 voucher from Christmas.  This will no doubt go on make up, there’s an Urban Decay in the Debenhams near me too so place your bets on it being an eyeshadow palette now…

Other than that, like I mentioned in the video I am all for suggestions and recommendations so please feel free to leave these in the comments section below!
