New Purchases Show & Tell – January 2018

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2018

At the start of the year I can’t help but think about the new purchases I’ll be making in the year ahead (mostly thanks to this series of mine).  However, starting now – as of my New Purchases Show & Tell January 2018 – there’ll be a bit of shake up.

Now that I’m classified as a ‘homeowner’ I’m looking to need to spend my money more wisely.  (Not that I haven’t done that in the past…)  There might be less clothes and beauty purchases, although don’t worry I’m sure they won’t completely go.  But I predict there’ll be a wider variety of products in the horizon for me this year  However, let’s start with some new year basics first!

New Purchases Show & Tell January 2018 video

Here’s what I’ve been buying to help me get ready and prepared for 2018.

Leucttrum 1917 Notebook Dotted A5 Black – 41 seconds in
Being only my second-ever Bullet Journal (in my lifetime!), I’ve changed the brand of notebook I’ll be using this year.  Part of me wanted to see what all the fuss was about with Leuchttrum notebooks.  I’d never heard of this brand, yet their notebooks seem to be a bullet journaller’s favourite. Now I can see why, through the many features their notebooks include, which I want to cover in more detail in a separate post.  For now though, take the example of having dotted pages (instead of squared, like I had last year). As well as giving a cleaner look and feel to my pages,  it gives more flexibility to more designs too.

Dymo Embosser Omega – 2:07 minutes in
I have wanted one of these FOR YEARS!  My inner geek (oh screw it – I am a geek!) fell in love at first sight, whenever it was when I’d first caught sight of one as a kid back in the nineties.  Having never owned one growing up, I felt as giddy as a little girl again when it was delivered to my door.  I love how retro the black tape looks.  I want to label e v e r y t h i n g.

Sweat app (for Apple) – 2:52 minutes in
Forgive the obligatory fitness purchase in January, but getting this app has been on my mind for the past year or so.  I’ve been aware of Kayla Itsines and her Bikini Body Guide (BBG) workouts from long before that too, so I took the leap and subscribed to her app.  Let’s just say it’s no walk in the park and I’m working out more than ever – a whopping 6 times a week!  But her workouts are 28 minutes long, meaning I can easily squeeze them into my busy schedule.  Tell me if you’d like a separate review?

Chok Idea Watchband – 4:14 minutes in
Closely related to the fitness kick I seem to be going through, I’ve bought a new watch strap for my Apple watch.  I’ve needed one for a little while, as mine was going a bit off colour.  (Ewe, I know.)  I can’t afford an Apple branded watch strap at the moment, but this cheap but comfy strap will do for now.  I think the white and pink colour combination freshens it up a bit too!

Next month…

Right. With Christmas done and dusted, this means my money is free to be spent on what I want again.  (Instead of getting into debt by spending it on gifts for loved ones and way too many ‘Christmas drinks’ down the pub.)  This also means I can get back to buying things for our house, finally!

David and I have our eyes on some blinds for the living room, which I admit doesn’t sound too exciting.  But I may want to purchase my first plant for our home too, as plants seem to be all the rage right now.  Rock n’ roll people, rock n’ roll…

New Purchases Show & Tell – December 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell December 2017

As promised, I’ve brought you my New Purchases Show & Tell December 2017 earlier than usual.  The reason being is so that you can snoop at the the Christmas gifts I’ve got this year, for any of your last minute inspiration.

But don’t be thinking this is yet another Christmas gift guide; it’s not.  I’ve bought other things for myself too (as I did last year), although unlike last year I haven’t just ‘accidentally on purpose’ treated myself to a few things I want/need… Instead I’ve bought mine and David’s first Christmas decorations!

New Purchases Show & Tell December 2017

Bring on the Christmas gifts:

Call of Duty WW2 on Playstation 4 – 48 seconds in
Let’s start with the boyfriend – the one who I now live with and don’t trust to NOT go looking for these presents.  He probably already knows he’s getting this, well he did ask for it, but that’s not the point.  I’m a bit dubious that he may read this post or watch my video too, which if he does then that’ll definitely ruin the surprise for the next present…

Men’s Christmas Snowflake Onesie – 1:13 minutes in
As he knows what his main present will be (above), I had to get him a surprise gift of some sort – otherwise where’s the fun in seeing him opening his gifts?  So yep, that’s right, a Christmas onesie is definitely that kind of gift to surprise him with!  Hilariously, I’m not sure what his reaction will be to it, but I’ll update you after Christmas whether he wore it or not.

Swarovski Field Butterfly Pierced Earrings – 1:36 minutes in
Back to the more serious gifts.  Jewellery is always a winner, particularly stud earrings – the most wearable jewellery, if the giftee has their ears pierced of course.  That’s kind of essential.  Along with Swarovski being a brand that can make anyone go ‘Oooo’.

New purchases show & Tell December 2017

Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum – 2:16 minutes in
Along with jewellery, you can’t go wrong with gifting someone perfume either.  Although with perfume being subjective it can be tricky when choosing which one to pick.  I know for a FACT my sister likes this perfume, since I’ve bought this for her a few years ago.  (So surely she must have used it and is in need for another one by now…)

Nina Ricci Miniature Set – 2:50 minutes in
If you’re not sure which perfume someone likes, this gift idea isn’t totally lost just yet.  If you can at least remember a brand they like then you’re onto the money!  For me I remember David’s mum mentioning a Nina Ricci perfume she liked, although I can’t remember which one exactly, but now she can have them all.  Plus this time if I ask which one she enjoyed the most I’ll note it down for a potential present next year.

Clarins Pampering Selection Set – 3:17 minutes in
There’s a part of me that doesn’t like how beauty-influenced my Christmas gifts are this year.  But you know what?  At least I know people will actually use these presents.  Like my Nan, who’s really not that fussy, but enjoys a nice bath.  Enter a Clarins bath set, her Christmas present; done and dusted!

New Purchases Show & Tell December 2017 Christmas

The Rolling Stones On Air – 3:33 minutes in
I can have a little more fun when shopping for my Dad’s Christmas presents.  As we have a similar taste in music and film, I know what he likes. With us being both Stones’ fans too I know he’ll appreciate this.  (Now I just hope he’ll lend me this to listen to, at one point…)

Game of Thrones House Stark T-Shirt – 4:04 minutes in
I find it both sweet and funny that my Dad likes to wear TV show t-shirts.  (He has a Hisenberg/Breaking Bad t-shirt that particularly makes me giggle.)  So I had to get him a Thrones t-shirt with one of his favourite quotes from the show.  (Sadly though, it’s not ‘you know nothing Jon Snow’…)

Christmas decorations – 4:17 minutes in
Excitingly, David and I bought are first ever Christmas decorations this year.  This weirdly feels like a big deal when you become a homeowner, as I spoke about in this post.  It’s like you’re investing into future Christmas’s, because think about it; Christmas decorations are pretty much kept until they break.  Could I be seeing these baubles again when I’m 40?  Quite possibly, and god that’s a crazy thought.

Next month/year…

I let out a little scream inside as I typed ‘next year’.  It feels like only yesterday when I filmed my New Purchases Show & Tell for January this year!  However, this just goes to show how time can pass so quickly and that I should focus on spending my money more wisely.

Next year will certainly include home-related purchases, but I also want to invest in better equipment for my blog and YouTube channel.  Watch this space.

New Purchases Show & Tell – November 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell November 2017

I’ve made the same mistake as I did last year in my New Purchases Show & Tell November 2016, I haven’t bought any Christmas presents yet and I’m leaving it all to do in December.  Shit.  I need to break this habit.

So, if I haven’t been spending my money on gifts for the big pig-out day in December then what have I been doing?  Well, I went to Belgium.

David and I spent a few days away, which funnily enough we did the same thing last year when we went to Edinburgh.  (Although this is a habit that doesn’t urgently need breaking…)  But I accidentally slipped and fell into some Black Friday deals too.  So some of my money went there, witness below.

New Purchases Show & Tell November 2017

So here’s what I’ve been spending my monthly pay on:

Back2Front Holiday House (AirBnb) – 39 seconds in
David and I went to Ypres, a place we’ve wanted to explore for a while for its First World War history.  (We like our historical holidays…)  I really wanted to highlight our Airbnb from our trip because it was great value!  It was placed conveniently out of town and nestled within the countryside.  It was quiet, peaceful and just right for us to explore Ypres and the areas around it.  (I will do a blog post on this soon, don’t worry.)

Fashion Union Petite High Neck Top In Velvet – 1:38 minutes in
Back to the usual products you typically see me buying, month in month out…  When I first saw this top flicking through my ASOS app, I knew it was ‘the one’ for my work’s Christmas party too.  That, and a kind of ‘alternative’ but classy Christmas jumper.  I don’t know why I couldn’t see that it was velvet from the website, or that the ‘ball balls’ were actually pearls (fake ones of course).  Both pleasantly surprised me though and made me love this top more.

New Purchases Show & Tell November 2017

TopShop PETITE Dobby Trim T-Shirt – 3:51 minutes in
Okay, in comes the Black Friday items I couldn’t resist.  No surprises they’re all from TopShop (I can never resist their sales).  This was a basic top I spotted a while back, but felt it was maybe a little pricey for what it was.  (I was just being tight probably – I have a mortgage to pay!)  Thankfully I whipped it up in the sale with £10 off – the sleeves are so pretty!

TopShop PETITE Stitchy Knitted T-Shirt – 4:30 minutes in
I caught sight of this top before it went into the sale too, but same story above; I was trying to save money, so I didn’t splash out on it, blah blah blah.  This top was slightly more expensive though (at £26) but was knocked down to the same price of £12.  Bargain, and so versatile!

New Purchases Show & Tell November 2017

TopShop PETITE Floral Cupped Body – 5:00 minutes in
As is the case with most sales, even Black Friday sales, you end up buying an item completely out of season.  Like this, very summery body.  The kind of thing I should be wearing out in California or somewhere, rather than folding it away and hoping for a heatwave in Britain.  It was cheap as chips though (by TopShop standards) – £8!

Next month…

Oh lord, Christ was born… on Christmas Day… which is this month!  I’ve really got to pull my socks up and whip my debit cards out, through Amazon, shopping and anywhere else to start ticking off my Christmas list.

As I did last New Purchases Show & Tell December 2016, I’ll be bringing you this December’s video and post a little earlier than usual.  In it, I will divulge all the gifts I’ve bought for friends and family, in case you need any last minute gift inspiration.  (Which if you do, you’re worse than me.)

New Purchases Show & Tell – October 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell October 2017

With buying (and moving into) a new house, you’d think my spending would slow up and I’d be spending more of my money on cleaning products and household items.  But, my New Purchases Show & Tell October 2017 is here to prove you and I wrong!  (Although, I admit I didn’t plan it this way and being this close to Christmas, I am feeling the sting.)

With a trip to Paris this month (which is where most of my money was spent), I have many exciting things that I’ve been buying and loving, to show you. Which is what’s most important, right?  Oh and this is the first video I’ve filmed in our new house!

New Purchases Show & Tell October 2017 video

A textual break down…

Purelogy Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner – 28 seconds in
Just before we get onto my trip in the city of love, light and baguettes – I needed a shampoo and conditioner top-up.  Having seen a few of my favourite YouTuber’s using Purelogy, I caught an offer on lookfantastic.com and I’m giving them a whirl as we speak; so far, so good.

Paris by Lonely Planet (11th Revised Edition) – 1:17 minutes in
I bought this in preparation for my trip to the French capital and as always, Lonely Planet guides prove to be so helpful, and fun to read.  Ever since taking a gap year to travel, I hardly go away without first getting my nose deep within at least one guide book.  I’m a fan of Rough Guides too.

Sephora Sheet Face Masks – 2:45 minutes in
Every beauty junkie out there knows about Sephora and if that beauty junkie is British, he/she will know the ache to visit a store, as there are none in the UK.  So, when I was strolling down Champs Elysees in Paris I finally took my first step inside one!  I was so overwhelmed by the abundance of brands they had on offer, but knew my bank account wouldn’t forgive me for splurging.  So, I came out with some Sephora sheet masks instead.  I’m still as happy as a clam and can’t wait to try them!

Customised Birchbox Box – 4:17 minutes in
I don’t want to give too much away, but of course I did drop by the Birchbox shop in Paris.  I mentioned in my video it was the only one in Europe at the time, but now they’ve opened a pop-up store in London too.  A separate video and post on my visit will be coming soon!

Ikea Trysil Wardrobe review

Ikea Trysil Wardrobres – 5:29 minutes in
The relief to not be living out of suitcases and bags is real – we finally have wardrobes in our new home!  When looking for wardrobes we wanted something we could store a lot of clothes in (obviously), but we were also looking to save room (not so easy).  The slidable doors have definitely provided room and along with the accompanying drawers underneath, I now doubt if we’ll need another chest of drawers.  Ikea, you are a life saver!

Next month…

I’ve not learned my lessons from this New Purchases Show & Tell October 2017, in fact next month (now this month) I will be off on my travels again.  David and I will be popping over to Belgium for a few days to mostly take in some historic sights, and some chocolate, beer and maybe a quick visit to Bruges.

Then after that, it’ll be ticking off my list for Christmas gifts in the lead up to the big blobbing-out day of the year.  (I’m trying to pretend it’s not only a few weeks away.) 😬

New Purchases Show & Tell – September 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017

The big news has finally been revealed; my boyfriend and I are officially homeowners. With a mortgage to start paying and a house to look after, it’s no surprise my New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017 is filled with buys that reflect that.

Looking back on my New Purchases Show & Tell for last year however, I was buying clothes for a new job and still reminiscing about Adele’s set at Glastonbury.  What a difference a year makes…

New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017 video

Dulux Once Paint – 49 seconds in
I lol at just typing this item into my post – I mean, who puts PAINT in their monthly favourites/new purchases?!  But it’s true, this paint saves SO MUCH TIME when painting white walls.  After giving our living room 5 coats at least, with the usual matte paint, it’s the room that has taken us the longest to decorate.  Whereas our bedroom only took 2 coats!  I rest my case.

Ikea Vimle 3-seat Sofa – 1:25 minutes in
I’ve been looking forward to the day I first stepped into an Ikea store since we decided to move out.  Having never been in one before, it was an interior heaven, but also a bit of an interior hell.  I explain more in my house vlogs, but what’s important is that we successful bought a banging yellow sofa.  I absolutely love it!

Simba mattress – 2:17 minutes in
I was so relieved David agreed with me when I said it’s worth spending a little bit more on a bed, considering the average human might spend up to 25 years of their time sleeping in it.  So after weeks of being targeted by Simba mattress ads on social media, I caved in.  But, after all, they did sound damn comfy and if we aren’t sure after 100 sleeps, we can send it back.  Although I doubt we’ll be doing that.

New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017

Stylus pens – 3:05 mintes in
Okay, this is a bit random, but I can explain.  After attempting several times to achieve that ‘cool’ handwritten look in my Instagram stories, and failing, I’ve bought these stylus pens.  I’m convinced Instagrammer’s must use these in their Instagram stories for that pretty handwriting, which is impossible to draw with just your finger.  Hence why I’ve bought these, here’s hoping I’ve figured out their secret.

ASOS PETITE Stretch Skinny Trousers – 4:08 minutes
In my previous New Purchases Show & Tell post for August, I could have pretty much renamed it WHAT I WORE instead (there was a lot of clothing buys!).  However, this month I’ve hardly bought any clothing (although I haven been weeping inside when I check the ‘New In’ section in the ASOS and TopShop apps.)  For £7.50, I had to whip these up and I’m glad I did!  They’re a skinny fit, without the uncomfortable digging in, making this bargain entirely worth it.

New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017

Next month…

I feel like my New Purchases Show & Tell September 2017 has been a really weird one.  I’ve still not got over the fact I’ve included a tin of paint and a mattress in this, but don’t worry, I think next month I’ll be back to my normal purchases.

I’m also planning to go away at the end of the month, so I’ll be buying some travel purchases too.  (Although after spending a lot on the house, don’t expect this to be anywhere far flung.  A clue: it’s somewhere just a hop on a train away…)
