Birchbox UK – December 2017

Birchbox_UK_December_2017_unboxing

It’s taken me to receive my Birchbox UK December 2017 box to realise it’s actually December now.  December hasn’t creeped up on me; it’s made an unexpected, out-of-nowhere pounce attack!  How does a year fly by so quickly?

You might remember last year (in my Birchbox UK December 2016) that I launched my first ever Birchbox giveaway.  Well this year I’m doing the same, but stepping up my game a little bit…

Birchbox UK December 2017 unboxing

To end the year, Birchbox UK have declared this month’s theme Life’s Little Treasures.  Which links up quite nicely with the beauty products that are typically released this time of year.  With the majority of these giving an iridescent sheen or at least a hint of sparkle, they too can look like little treasures too!

Interestingly, Birchbox have collaborated on the box design with Matthew Williamson.  A luxury designer I wasn’t aware of, but after a quick google I was soon to become an admirer of his gorgeous prints… like the one on this month’s box.

Birchbox subscribers had a pick from two full size lip products this month and I couldn’t decide which one to settle for.  (So I left it to Birchbox to decide for me…)

One was a rather feisty and festive red from Birchbox created brand LOC (Love of Colour).  Whereas the the other was a moisturising lip balm with a natural red tint.  Here’s which Birchbox decided I should receive, along with the other samples:

  • Baïja Paris Carmelised Honey Body Scrub
Now this is what I’m talking about when I mentioned festive beauty products!  Think of a Christmas themed exfoliator and this would be it.  I half expected it to smell of clementines.

Baija Paris Caramelised Honey Body Scrub

  • LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident Cranberry (FULL SIZE!)
After leaving it to Birchbox to decide for me, I’m pretty glad they’ve given me the full-on red lipstick.  Despite being matte, LOC lipsticks still seem to be quite creamy and not lacking in colour.
  • Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Clay Mask
Apparently a cult product – which rock must I have been living under to miss this one?  At £39.90, this feels like a sprinkle of luxury in my box.
  • Spectrum Collections B04 Angled Blender Brush (FULL SIZE!)
Another Spectrum brush to add to the collection!  The last Spectrum eye brush I received from Birchbox actually trumped one of my Real Techniques brush, so I’m happy to see this in my box.
  • ModelCo Contour Stick
I’ve not read other Birchbox UK December 2017 reviews yet, but I think it’s a nice touch we received the other item from our choice of two Modelco products back in October’s box.  Especially as this was another decision I had left to Birchbox, because I couldn’t decide myself.
  • Cargo Blush in Sunset Beach?
Can anyone solve this mystery for me?  This item isn’t printed on my leaflet, so I’m not sure if this is a mistake or a pleasant surprise.  It’s quite a lovely blush though that could easily double up as a highlighter.

Box round up

Once again, Birchbox have delivered in sending out a festive mix of samples just in time for the holidays.  With two full size items with a total that scrapes just below the price I’ve paid for the box, they’ve finished the year on a happy note.

Already looking ahead, Birchbox UK have already revealed a teaser for next year.  (I know, already!  I don’t even know what my New Year’s Eve plans are yet…)  A choice of two blushes (interestingly in stick form) will be in our January boxes from familiar brand Lord & Berry.

Birchbox UK – February 2017

Birchbox UK February 2017 unboxing

I’m not entirely sure how it’s time for Birchbox UK February 2017 already, it only seems like yesterday I was sipping mojitos on my 28th birthday and Donald Trump became president.

Alas, the year moves on fast and another Birchbox was delivered to my door (or over the fence as I wasn’t in.)  Watch my unboxing video below to find out what this month’s box was all about!

Birchbox UK February 2017

‘Express Yourself’ is the theme this month with a choice of two boxes to choose from.  Both have a leafy design – best word I could think of to describe it – and I opted for the lighter, green box.

This is supposedly the first month where Birchbox subscribers will be given a ‘choice’.  This ‘choice’ may be from choosing between two box designs (like this one) or products/samples that’ll be in that box.  I’m quite excited about this will continuing every month until the end of the year.

Samples

Despite some negative feedback I’ve already seen and read, I’m quite happy with the samples I received this month.  Click on any of the samples below to see more details:

Beaver Professional Conditioning Spray
Whish Shave Cream
POP Beauty Eyeshadow Trio
Keeome Hydration Mask Therapy
Spectrum C06 Eye Contour Brush (FULL SIZE!)

Immediately I’m drawn to the Korean face mask from Keeome.  Using an Etude House sheet mask has become my weekly ritual.  And for a mask so cheap (usually around £1) it works wonders on my skin!  Keeome, on the other hand, come in a few bob extra compared to Etude House, so I’ll be interested to see just how good they are.

Some might say receiving another Spectrum brush has been repetitive. (I’ve received a Spectrum highlighter brush and Beauty Blender inspired sponge since I’ve been subscribed). However, I don’t agree.

Make up brushes can be pricey, so receiving the few in my Birchbox adds up to a varied collection!  I’m especially not complaining about this being full size either!

At £4.99 (the leaflet for some reason says £5.99) it equals around half the value of my box AND works well with the Pop Beauty eyeshadow trio.  (Swatches for which I’ve put above.)

Extras

How have I forgotten to add that this box is in collaboration with Papier?  Birchbox subscribers were offered a notebook from the company with the box design on it, for a knocked down price of course.  Me, being a bit of a stationary hoarder, couldn’t turn it down.

If my memory serves me right Birchbox did a similar offer when they collaborated with Papier last time.  That’s another similar, hard-to-turn-down notebook to my collection!  There was a 25% promo code also slipped into my box, so I received two added extras this month.

Conclusion

I’m not sure if I’ve just read moaner’s comments, but I don’t get the beef with this month’s box.  Again there has been a variety of samples and another full size item too!

With both my January and February boxes containing full sized items, if Birchbox keep this up every month this year too I’ll be delighted!

Next month (spoiler!) I’ll have a Benefit They’re Real! Double the Lip lipstick and lip liner in one.  I’ve already chosen my shade from receiving an email earlier this week and I just hope it’ll be full size!  To be confirmed…

Birchbox UK – January 2017

Birchbox UK January 2017 unboxing

New year, new Birchbox!  Birchbox, like the rest of us, seem to make promises to better themselves when the new year rings in.

Take last year for example, they promised it would be the ‘best year ever’ – now, how can they beat a year like that?  I’m not sure but I’m looking forward in finding out!

Birchbox UK January 2017

The first theme of 2017 (that almost rhymes) is ‘Sprinkle Happiness’.  The drawer design box always sprinkles happiness for me and the yellow colour scheme is so refreshing for this time of the year.

I don’t usually focus on the leaflet, but this month a tick list was included with ideas to start the new year positively through mindfulness.  Personally I think this is a great idea, I love tick lists!

Samples

Birchbox UK January 2017 unboxing

The Birchbox UK January 2017 samples make an interesting mix too.  Click on the links below if you want to see more details:

MONUSpa Rosewood Reviving Mist
Absolution Le Nettoyant Pureté
John Frieda Frizz Ease Miraculous Recovery Deep Conditioner
Merci Handy Hand Cream (FULL SIZE!)
Lord & Berry: Conceal-It Crayon (FULL SIZE!)

Skincare, hair and make-up – these samples tick all the boxes this month!  I’m quite a fan of facial mists, my current foundation can be a little drying so a quick spritz after application keeps me hydrated.

Although I totally butchered the pronunciation of the cleanser I’m quite intrigued in giving it a go.  I received a face mask cream from Absolution a while ago (in my Birchbox) and it was pretty good and didn’t irritate my skin.

The real stars of this month’s box though are the two full size samples of course!  I do love a good hand cream, so seeing the Merci Handy hand cream was a treat.  As for the The Lord & Berry concealer crayon it may have confused me at first, but was a welcomed surprise too. (After I tested how creamy it was!)

Conclusion

I can’t complain about two full size items totalling over the value of my box!  Come on, that is a fantastic start of the year for Birchbox!  *Scurries away and checks last year.*  Nope!  I didn’t receive one full size item last year in January, let alone two!

I’ve already mentioned that the products are quite varied, which is another thing I like about this month’s box.  Although I do think there’s bigger and better things to come in later months!

Take for instance that there’ll be another Spectrum make-up brush in next month’s box – I couldn’t avoid that spoiler, it was printed on the leaflet!  I also read that, from February, I will get to choose one aspect of my box every month until the end of the year!  That’s quite a promise and I can’t wait to see what I’m given to pick from…

Birchbox UK – December 2016

Birchbox UK December 2016 Merry & Bright unboxing

Merry & Bright chimes the theme of the final Birchbox of the year! Birchbox UK December 2016 ends the self-proclaimed ‘best year ever’, I was excited to say the least.

So was it worth looking forward to?  Find out and watch my unboxing video below.

Birchbox UK December 2016

Birchbox have really upped the festive feel to the theme and the box design this month. Of course this was predictable, but it still felt like I was opening a Christmas present early!

Instead of going with the drawer design they’ve been accustomed to lately, this one opened from the top.  I’ve been using the drawer boxes to store my nail varnishes, whereas this design will be great for keeping my make up brushes together!

Anyway, on with more important discussions – the samples! Click on the product to see more details:

Elemis Hydra-Nourish Night Cream
Percy & Reed Wonder Balm
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick
Benefit Benetint
Ciaté Fierce Flicks Eyeliner

Last month I said Birchbox UK December 2016 is going to be a winner and I think I was right.

Not only are there some very well-known brands here, they’re all really useful samples too.  As I said in the video, you could actually use them all for a night out!

I’m really interested in trying the Ciaté Fierce Flicks Eyeliner.  Not only am I an eyeliner addict, especially of the felt tip variety, but I also didn’t realise this brand sold products other than nail varnish.  Was I the only one to have thought this?

And of course it’s full size and worth more than I paid for the box – bonus!

Conclusion

I’m pleased with all of my samples this month, although I did see other Birchbox subscribers who received a Bobbi Brown mascara and Benefit Porefessional Primer!  I can’t lie, I hope I’ll be receiving those in future boxes…

Otherwise, well done Birchbox.  For me, this has been the ‘best year ever’ as I can’t remember any box that has left me disappointed.

But, saying that there is still room to improve and impress.  It’ll be nice if this standard is maintained next year and more brands come on board.  Judging by Bobbi Brown landing in the Birchbox shop lately, I think there will be and I can’t wait.

Birchbox UK – November 2016

Birchbox_UK_October_2016_Shake_your_tail_feather_theme

It’s November people, and not long now until JC’s birthday. Birchbox have that in mind too and have dedicated their Birchbox UK November 2016 box to getting ready for the party season!

So what do you need exactly to prepare for it?  Catch up and watch my unboxing video below to find out.

Birchbox UK November 2016

The theme this month is ‘Shake your Tail Feather’, because there really is no other feather I can think of that’s sassier than a peacock feather. Good choice Birchbox.

Once again the box has a ‘drawer’ design, which I was hoping for as I’ve been using them as storage boxes for my desk!

Anyway, here’s what I got this month (click on the product to see more details):

Beauty Protector Protect & Blonde Toning Shampoo
Nuxe Crème Prodigieuse
Khairpep Transforme Masque
Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow Illuminator
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Primer

There’s a few interesting items in this box.  Firstly the lip primer, I can’t say I’ve ever tried a lip primer before.  Birchbox seem especially chuffed with this item too as they mention it a few few times in the accompanying leaflet.

I’m quite pleased to receive, and intrigued to try, the Marcelle BB cream as well.  This is definitely a first for Birchbox, I just hope I can blend it in to match my skin tone!

I’m also looking forward to trying the Nuxe moisturiser and the Khairpep Transforme Masque, which by the way would be £49.50 to buy full size!

Conclusion

I’ve seen a few comments of disappointment from subscribers about the Birchbox UK November 2016 box.  I’ve got to say although I don’t feel as treated as I have previous months I’m still fairly happy.

I think what’s great about this month’s box is the diversity of the products.  Like I’ve said, I’ve never received a BB cream, or heard of Khairpep or Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.

There’s a nice mix of different types of products from brands I know and others I don’t.  But let’s look on the bright side eh?  Next month is the last Birchbox of 2016 and I reckon we could be in for a winner!
