Birchbox UK – March 2018

Birchbox UK March 2018 unboxing

I have no complaints with Birchbox UK March 2018 telling me to sit back and relax.  We started this month with SNOWMAGEDDON (or ‘the beast from the east’ vs storm Emma). If you, like me, were one of the unlucky souls who tried to drive in this insane weather, then you’ll know the beauty of just sitting back and relaxing at home.  (Thank god for working at home, hallelujah technology!)

Of course Birchbox have a slightly different slant which is behind this month’s theme.  Instead of looking back (like last month’s 70s, 80s, 90s theme), this month is all about looking within.  A bit hippie-ish yes, but this box seriously has you sorted for a proper pamper sesh.

Birchbox UK March 2018 unboxing

I’ve already spoken a bit about the theme behind Birchbox UK March 2018, but officially it’s named; Be Present, Not Perfect.  Basically this is telling us the importance of ‘me time’ and being more mindful.

I can’t find any important dates in the month of March that can explain Birchbox’s move on this.  (Maybe International Woman’s Day, at a push?)  But who cares, obviously caring and looking after yourself should be a priority all year round.

So how does being more mindful relate to beauty products?  Birchbox lays down the first step which is to sit back and relax with the following five beauty treats:

    • Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara
Birchbox and Benefit have a good thing going on – meaning they basically treat Birchbox subscribers to a sample of their latest product!  Benefit mascaras are considered the best (they’re certainly a strong contender).  I liked this mascara, but I wouldn’t agree that it was volumising though.  Regardless, this still gives a big impact to lashes.
    • BLAQ Peel Off Mask
We were given a choice this month between two Blaq products; a peel off mask or an eye mask.  The peel off mask was a winner for me because logically I’ll get more uses out of it (over the eye mask) and oh my god these charcoal masks look just so satisfying to peel off.
    • GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Mask Treatment
Another OH MY GOD moment.  I noticed Glamglow sliding into the Birchbox shop, but I didn’t expect to receive a sample in my box!  I am so stoked to receive this, honestly.  If you’ve not heard of Glamglow then you’ve missed out on one of the biggest cult beauty products in the last year.  I can’t wait to try this!  (This might even deserve its own separate review on here.)
    • Nuxe Reve de Miel Body Scrub
Every Nuxe item I’ve received has been a banger.  Since receiving the Nuxe Crème Prodigieuse Enrichie (moisturiser) in my Birchbox in November 2016 (whoa, that was ages ago), it’s become one of my skincare staples.  So I have high hopes for this scrub!
    • Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray
Did you see the result this left my hair in the video?  Need I say more…

I was also lucky to have received the Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer.  Although this wasn’t explained anywhere in the box, I think I’ve received this as an extra because someone couldn’t resist signing up to Birchbox through my referral link (which I will leave at the end of this post, if you’re interested).

Box round up

WELL, Birchbox UK March 2018 has been the BEST Birchbox of the year so far, imho.  No seriously, every product here has been so strong in terms of branding and type of product.  I’ve been so excited about receiving these products I’ve written this post without even trying some of them yet – just because I wanted to get this out to you asap!

SPOILER ALERT!  We’ve already received an April sneak peak at the back of our leaflet this month, which reveals the choice of a ModelCo Baked Highlighter.  Spring is definitely on its way in our April box judging by our two choices (between Frose or Moonshine).  Can it beat this month’s box, though?

Here’s my Birchbox referral link, where you can get 50% off your first box!

Birchbox UK – February 2018

Birchbox UK February 2018 unboxing

Where are we in the year?  February is the time of the year when L O V E (Valentine’s or Galentine’s) and pancakes start getting our attention. But Birchbox UK February 2018 wants to point us towards beauty in decades past.

From 70’s bronzing, 80’s neon colours and 90’s glitter – there’s plenty of beauty looks to look back on and inspire us.  (Or to avoid at all cost.)  After all, some beauty looks really have stood test of time.  Find out which of those might be included in this month’s box!

Birchbox UK February 2018 unboxing

True beauty is timeless is the theme behind the three different box designs this month, representing three different decades that we were given the choice between.

Usually I’d class myself as a 70s girl (based on my music taste and style preference).  Surprisingly though I felt more drawn to the 80s box by its design, so that’s the box I chose.  But it’s okay, the 80s still has David Bowie.  (Plus Modern Love, my favourite David Bowie song, was born in the 80s after all… Oh and I was born in the 80s too, come to think of it.)

With a theme that looks back on beauty through the ages, will this be reflected in the sample selection for Birchbox UK February 2018?  There’s only one way to find out:

  • The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio (FULL SIZE!)
I’m not surprised to see an eyeshadow trio to represent beauty of this decade, but it’s a shocker that there isn’t a neon purple or pink shade!  (Proper 80s eyeshadow shades!)  Thankfully Birchbox have brought more wearable colours from past decades for us to wear in the modern day.  Although I do see a hint of purple in the darkest colour of this set!  (It wouldn’t be 80s without some purple…)
  • Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm (FULL-SIZE!)
I knew a bright fuchsia pink would be somewhere in this box…  I’m just relieved it’s in a lip colour!  Regardless of colour, being a lip balm too makes it particularly useful for me at this time of year.  (80s themed or not!)
  • Percy & Reed Finishing Polish
Hair.  Another big 80’s look and it was all about the BIG hair.  Again another surprise from this box was that the hair product wasn’t either a hairspray or mouse!  But to be honest, I’d have preferred a finishing polish anyway.  Luckily I curled my hair before filming my unboxing, which perfectly shows how this little number can add a final sheen to a styled look!

Birchbox UK February 2018

  • Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask
I’m pretty sure hair masks weren’t a thing of the 80s, but by now I’ve realised a lot of these products were in the other decade’s boxes, so these samples aren’t specific to the decades.  Well, the majority of them aren’t anyway.  Besides, it’s always nice to try a spendy hair mask…
  • Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream
Balance Me have been impressing me recently with their products.  Although it’s a brand we see regularly in Birchbox that’s not to say I don’t enjoy their products.  Since receiving this eye cream I’ve been applying it day and night and my tired winter eyes already feel and look ‘smoothed’.  Maybe I do need some eye cream in my beauty regime…

Box round up

Hold the phone – do you remember in last month’s box round up I spoke about the full-size Keeome silicone buff makeup applicator as the February sneak peak?  Well looks like that never materialised…  (Anyone know why?)

I’d class this box as satisfactory, although I should give it more merit as I did receive 2 full-size items totalling over the price I paid for the box.  I am quite looking forward to next month’s box though, namely because the March sneak peak shows that we’ll be receiving a charcoal face mask, which looks like the kind that will be an absolute pleasure to peel off! (And I wonder if that full-size Keeome applicator will show up too…)

Birchbox UK – December 2017

Birchbox_UK_December_2017_unboxing

It’s taken me to receive my Birchbox UK December 2017 box to realise it’s actually December now.  December hasn’t creeped up on me; it’s made an unexpected, out-of-nowhere pounce attack!  How does a year fly by so quickly?

You might remember last year (in my Birchbox UK December 2016) that I launched my first ever Birchbox giveaway.  Well this year I’m doing the same, but stepping up my game a little bit…

Birchbox UK December 2017 unboxing

To end the year, Birchbox UK have declared this month’s theme Life’s Little Treasures.  Which links up quite nicely with the beauty products that are typically released this time of year.  With the majority of these giving an iridescent sheen or at least a hint of sparkle, they too can look like little treasures too!

Interestingly, Birchbox have collaborated on the box design with Matthew Williamson.  A luxury designer I wasn’t aware of, but after a quick google I was soon to become an admirer of his gorgeous prints… like the one on this month’s box.

Birchbox UK December 2017

Birchbox subscribers had a pick from two full size lip products this month and I couldn’t decide which one to settle for.  (So I left it to Birchbox to decide for me…)

One was a rather feisty and festive red from Birchbox created brand LOC (Love of Colour).  Whereas the the other was a moisturising lip balm with a natural red tint.  Here’s which Birchbox decided I should receive, along with the other samples:

  • Baïja Paris Carmelised Honey Body Scrub
Now this is what I’m talking about when I mentioned festive beauty products!  Think of a Christmas themed exfoliator and this would be it.  I half expected it to smell of clementines.

Baija Paris Caramelised Honey Body Scrub

  • LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident Cranberry (FULL SIZE!)
After leaving it to Birchbox to decide for me, I’m pretty glad they’ve given me the full-on red lipstick.  Despite being matte, LOC lipsticks still seem to be quite creamy and not lacking in colour.
  • Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Clay Mask
Apparently a cult product – which rock must I have been living under to miss this one?  At £39.90, this feels like a sprinkle of luxury in my box.
  • Spectrum Collections B04 Angled Blender Brush (FULL SIZE!)
Another Spectrum brush to add to the collection!  The last Spectrum eye brush I received from Birchbox actually trumped one of my Real Techniques brush, so I’m happy to see this in my box.
  • ModelCo Contour Stick
I’ve not read other Birchbox UK December 2017 reviews yet, but I think it’s a nice touch we received the other item from our choice of two Modelco products back in October’s box.  Especially as this was another decision I had left to Birchbox, because I couldn’t decide myself.
  • Cargo Blush in Sunset Beach?
Can anyone solve this mystery for me?  This item isn’t printed on my leaflet, so I’m not sure if this is a mistake or a pleasant surprise.  It’s quite a lovely blush though that could easily double up as a highlighter.

Box round up

Once again, Birchbox have delivered in sending out a festive mix of samples just in time for the holidays.  With two full size items with a total that scrapes just below the price I’ve paid for the box, they’ve finished the year on a happy note.

Already looking ahead, Birchbox UK have already revealed a teaser for next year.  (I know, already!  I don’t even know what my New Year’s Eve plans are yet…)  A choice of two blushes (interestingly in stick form) will be in our January boxes from familiar brand Lord & Berry.

Birchbox UK – February 2017

Birchbox UK February 2017 unboxing

I’m not entirely sure how it’s time for Birchbox UK February 2017 already, it only seems like yesterday I was sipping mojitos on my 28th birthday and Donald Trump became president.

Alas, the year moves on fast and another Birchbox was delivered to my door (or over the fence as I wasn’t in.)  Watch my unboxing video below to find out what this month’s box was all about!

Birchbox UK February 2017

‘Express Yourself’ is the theme this month with a choice of two boxes to choose from.  Both have a leafy design – best word I could think of to describe it – and I opted for the lighter, green box.

This is supposedly the first month where Birchbox subscribers will be given a ‘choice’.  This ‘choice’ may be from choosing between two box designs (like this one) or products/samples that’ll be in that box.  I’m quite excited about this will continuing every month until the end of the year.

Samples

Despite some negative feedback I’ve already seen and read, I’m quite happy with the samples I received this month.  Click on any of the samples below to see more details:

Beaver Professional Conditioning Spray
Whish Shave Cream
POP Beauty Eyeshadow Trio
Keeome Hydration Mask Therapy
Spectrum C06 Eye Contour Brush (FULL SIZE!)

Immediately I’m drawn to the Korean face mask from Keeome.  Using an Etude House sheet mask has become my weekly ritual.  And for a mask so cheap (usually around £1) it works wonders on my skin!  Keeome, on the other hand, come in a few bob extra compared to Etude House, so I’ll be interested to see just how good they are.

Some might say receiving another Spectrum brush has been repetitive. (I’ve received a Spectrum highlighter brush and Beauty Blender inspired sponge since I’ve been subscribed). However, I don’t agree.

Birchbox UK February 2017 unboxing

Make up brushes can be pricey, so receiving the few in my Birchbox adds up to a varied collection!  I’m especially not complaining about this being full size either!

At £4.99 (the leaflet for some reason says £5.99) it equals around half the value of my box AND works well with the Pop Beauty eyeshadow trio.  (Swatches for which I’ve put above.)

Extras

How have I forgotten to add that this box is in collaboration with Papier?  Birchbox subscribers were offered a notebook from the company with the box design on it, for a knocked down price of course.  Me, being a bit of a stationary hoarder, couldn’t turn it down.

If my memory serves me right Birchbox did a similar offer when they collaborated with Papier last time.  That’s another similar, hard-to-turn-down notebook to my collection!  There was a 25% promo code also slipped into my box, so I received two added extras this month.

Conclusion

I’m not sure if I’ve just read moaner’s comments, but I don’t get the beef with this month’s box.  Again there has been a variety of samples and another full size item too!

With both my January and February boxes containing full sized items, if Birchbox keep this up every month this year too I’ll be delighted!

Next month (spoiler!) I’ll have a Benefit They’re Real! Double the Lip lipstick and lip liner in one.  I’ve already chosen my shade from receiving an email earlier this week and I just hope it’ll be full size!  To be confirmed…

Birchbox UK – January 2017

Birchbox UK January 2017 unboxing

New year, new Birchbox!  Birchbox, like the rest of us, seem to make promises to better themselves when the new year rings in.

Take last year for example, they promised it would be the ‘best year ever’ – now, how can they beat a year like that?  I’m not sure but I’m looking forward in finding out!

Birchbox UK January 2017

The first theme of 2017 (that almost rhymes) is ‘Sprinkle Happiness’.  The drawer design box always sprinkles happiness for me and the yellow colour scheme is so refreshing for this time of the year.

I don’t usually focus on the leaflet, but this month a tick list was included with ideas to start the new year positively through mindfulness.  Personally I think this is a great idea, I love tick lists!

Samples

Birchbox UK January 2017 unboxing

The Birchbox UK January 2017 samples make an interesting mix too.  Click on the links below if you want to see more details:

MONUSpa Rosewood Reviving Mist
Absolution Le Nettoyant Pureté
John Frieda Frizz Ease Miraculous Recovery Deep Conditioner
Merci Handy Hand Cream (FULL SIZE!)
Lord & Berry: Conceal-It Crayon (FULL SIZE!)

Skincare, hair and make-up – these samples tick all the boxes this month!  I’m quite a fan of facial mists, my current foundation can be a little drying so a quick spritz after application keeps me hydrated.

Although I totally butchered the pronunciation of the cleanser I’m quite intrigued in giving it a go.  I received a face mask cream from Absolution a while ago (in my Birchbox) and it was pretty good and didn’t irritate my skin.

The real stars of this month’s box though are the two full size samples of course!  I do love a good hand cream, so seeing the Merci Handy hand cream was a treat.  As for the The Lord & Berry concealer crayon it may have confused me at first, but was a welcomed surprise too. (After I tested how creamy it was!)

Conclusion

I can’t complain about two full size items totalling over the value of my box!  Come on, that is a fantastic start of the year for Birchbox!  *Scurries away and checks last year.*  Nope!  I didn’t receive one full size item last year in January, let alone two!

I’ve already mentioned that the products are quite varied, which is another thing I like about this month’s box.  Although I do think there’s bigger and better things to come in later months!

Take for instance that there’ll be another Spectrum make-up brush in next month’s box – I couldn’t avoid that spoiler, it was printed on the leaflet!  I also read that, from February, I will get to choose one aspect of my box every month until the end of the year!  That’s quite a promise and I can’t wait to see what I’m given to pick from…
