Birchbox UK – July 2018

Birchbox UK July 2018 unboxing

Summer is well and truly here; we’ve hosted our first BBQ (summer wins) and I got sunburnt in the process (summer fails). So I wonder what Birchbox UK July 2018 has in store for us subscribers this month…

Summer months and Christmas are the only two times of the year where Birchbox can really create a seasonal sample selection. (A bit of unintentional sibilance there.) I remember a few years ago my Birchbox for July (maybe 2015?) contained a Benefit sun screen, a soothing after-sun and a glittery summer-inspired eyeshadow trio. I can’t remember the other items, but my point is that it was all very summery.

Birchbox UK July 2018 unboxing video

Last month, I went live on YouTube for the first time (!!!) to unbox June’s box. It’s back to the usual programming this month though, with a normal edited video. (Let me know which you prefer?)

There’s no real hints of the theme Say Yes to Adventure from the pastel pink designed box. However the clue as to why this is the theme actually lies in the offer available to Birchbox subscribers this month, which I’ll discuss in the moment. First; let’s dissect the samples.

Samples

I was looking for summer skincare and makeup, which I think I’ve received in *maybe* some of the items in Birchbox UK July 2018.

  • Manna Kadar Long-Wear Powder (FULL-SIZE!)
I’ll start with the product we knew we’d be receiving. Birchbox subscribers were given the choice out of two shades of Manna Kadar’s Long-Wear Powder. One called Paradise, a deep coral pink, or Trifecta, more of a bronze-y brown. I opted for the bronzer option, as it could be used as an eyeshadow too. Using only my fingers it feels very soft, which suggests it’s both buildable and blendable (if that’s a word).Birchbox UK July 2018 samples
  • Klorane Floral Water Makeup Remover
Although it’s not especially summer focused, I’m pleased to see another Klorane product. I received their famous dry shampoo back in November and have been intrigued by the brand since. Micellar waters are always nice to try, too.
  • Vita Liberata Body Blur
Oh my god! I’ve heard about this product and I was REALLY excited to see it in my box. This is basically a skin tint – think Rimmel Skin Tint (which I use to be extremely loyal to), an instant tanner. Although the blurring effect looks amazing. My only disappointment is that I’ve received a medium-dark, which will be too dark for me, why Birchbox!¬†ūüėę
  • What’s in it for me…? Shower Scrub
With self-tanning, or just normal tanning, a good scrub matters. So I’m quite happy to see this in here, although I’ve not heard of the brand before and probably would’ve mixed it up with This Works without a closer look. Regardless, the ingredients sound scrumptious!

  • Browcote Waterproof Brow Gel (FULL-SIZE!)
Did you ever try Lipcote? Usually found next to the fake nails in Boots, it’s a clear liquid you apply to your lips after lipstick to keep the colour locked in. I’m not sure how long this product has been around, but it kept my brows neat and tame all day since I applied it during the video.

Added Little Extras

As I mentioned, the theme began to make sense when I spotted the offer leaflet at the bottom of my box, sitting underneath all the samples. This month Birchbox subscribers have been given 25% off their next stay at one of the Generator Hostel in either Venice, Barcelona, Madrid, Hamburg and Copenhagen. Not bad! (I was thinking of going on a weekend trip to Copenhagen too…)

Box Round-Up

I’ve failed to say so far that there are TWO full size items in this box! Amounting to way over the total of my box at ¬£21.99, which feels pretty satisfying. Although speaking strictly design and overall theme, I think more could have been done with the adventure message. Especially to promote the great offer inside! (Alas, I speak only as someone who works in marketing…)

As for a Birchbox UK August 2018 teaser… expect to receive another full size item in the form of a Dirty Little Secret Eyeshadow Crayon. Bonus.

Birchbox UK – June 2018

Birchbox UK June 2018 unboxing

Last month we went through ALL of the emotions and come-downs of the Royal Wedding (can we do it all again please, Megan and Harry?). So already Birchbox UK June 2018 has a lot to contend with. What a clever move Birchbox has made then to carry on the British celebrations into this month as well.

But there’s another good reason to celebrate, as Birchbox is turning the ripe age of 5 years old this month too. Plus I have a lot going on in June (mostly me trying to post out a video every day over on my channel.) So there’s plenty going on to bide us time until the next royal wedding (which won’t be for a few decades yet, but, ya know).

Birchbox UK June 2018 video

So to celebrate my Every Day June bonanza and to save time on video editing, I decided to go LIVE on YouTube this month by unboxing my Birchbox UK June 2018 limited edition tin box! (This was also my first ever live YouTube video, eep.)

The tin box is definitely a first. Since I become a subscriber way back in 2014 (4 years ago – eek!), I’ve never received a tin box Birchbox. So this combined with a British tea party theme is just splendid. (I’m still on a high after the Royal Wedding and I’m all for Britishness at the moment.)

Samples

A 5th anniversary is a big milestone, so do the samples we received reflect that and a British tea party theme? Find out below…

  • Ella Eden Compact Eyeshaow (FULL SIZE!)
As ever, I’ll start with the product I knew I was receiving. Last month I had the choice between two colours of a full-size Ella Eden eyeshadow; a brown named Faith, or a muted pink called Julia. I opted for Julia, but as you can probably see, I’ve had a bit of an accident since filming my live! Sadly I dropped it on the floor, resulting in smashing it to pieces, although I did save some of this sparkly pink for the swatch below…Ella Eden Compact Eyeshaow in Julia
  • Benefit POREfessional Pearl Primer
It wouldn’t be a Birchbox celebration without a Benefit sample now would it! I’ve said before how Benefit and Birchbox have a good partnership going, so I’m pleased to see this in my box. I’ve not tried the hyped up original POREfessional, so I can’t compare but I’m all about the added radiance.
  • Whittard of Chelsea Teabags
So this is where the tea party theme comes in! I received three selections to try; Earl Grey (a quintessential favourite everyone knows and loves), a remedial Lemon & Ginger, and a fruity Mango & Bergamot too.
  • Number 4 Jour d’automne Smoothing Balm
This brand has cropped up a couple of times in my Birchbox over the years and I’ve usually been pleased with their products, so Number 4 isn’t an unwanted face (to this tea party haha). I can tell you that it smells absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to try this properly with damp hair. (It’s a heat protectant too!)Birchbox UK June 2018
  • Polaar Velvety Sun Fluid Face & Body
I’m pleased to see a SPF in here! I’m quite pasty, so I take sun care seriously (I have to, otherwise I burn). With my skin being sensitive as well I find it helps to sometimes spending a little bit more on sunscreen, as it means I won’t break out (on my face) and irritate my skin.
  • Lord & Berry Strobing Highlighter Pencil
An interesting product, that still has me pondering why this wasn’t made as a stick, instead of a pencil? It will help with highlighting the areas around my eyes though.

Box Round Up

The tin box was definitely a treat! I do agree that some of the samples seem a bit laid back for a celebration though, but they’re all quite useful to me, albeit in a low-key way. If only I hadn’t dropped the full-size eyeshadow, which was more than the total of my box, I’d have been more happy with Birchbox UK June 2018.

Another full-size product is on the horizon too (as in next month’s box). As Birchbox subscribers, we’ll be given a choice out of two long wear powders (in blush-like colours) from Manna Kadar, another returning brand. I wonder what we’ll be celebrating then…

Birchbox UK January 2018

Birchbox UK January 2018 unboxing

It’s a new year already and Christmas celebrations (with all the feasts and parties)¬†passed long ago.¬† Diets have begun, gym memberships are back to being active and¬†even¬†my Birchbox UK January 2018¬†is on¬†a New Year kick.¬† It’s time to focus on the year ahead.

Most people¬†are done with getting all glammed up this month, unlike last month¬†when we received a number of¬†sparkling treasures from Birchbox. But that’s not to say we can’t make time to pamper ourselves.¬† Find out what I received below!

Birchbox UK January 2018 unboxing

Birchbox UK January 2018 kick starts¬†the new year with the theme Stand Tall.¬† (Figuratively speaking of course, as I’m only 5ft 2.)¬† And as it’s the time of year to get organised, Birchbox UK have teamed up with British stationary brand Ohh Deer.¬† Namely because stationary = getting organised!

As for resolutions, instead of the usual babble like ‘get fitter’ and ‘quit this or that’, Birchbox urge us to ‘rip up the resolution rulebook’ and embrace something¬†we really enjoy.¬† If that means making a habit of trialling new beauty¬†products then count me in!

Samples

This is what we’re all here for; the samples.¬† Birchbox subscribers knew they’d be receiving a full size Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon since being given the choice¬†of¬†two colours.¬† So let’s get down to the details!

Birchbox UK January 2018 samples

  • Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon (FULL SIZE!)
I’ve owned blusher sticks before, but blusher crayons?¬† Trying it straight out of the box it’s surprisingly creamy and quite blendable too.¬† There’s no going overboard with it either, I drew a few lines on my cheeks (something I never thought I’d say) and used my fingers to blend, which¬†left me with a natural-looking flush that was quite easy to master.
  • Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Charcoal
Here’s another product that’s soft and smooth to apply.¬† Grey is a welcoming twist¬†on¬†the classic black for me, being so pale¬†le noir can look too harsh at times.¬† I don’t often wear pencil eyeliner on my upper lid out of frustration from making a mess.¬† However, this glided on and, more importantly, stayed on.
  • Thermaliv Night Cream
I usually reach for oil (over a cream) for my night time regime.¬† But this could be a game changer.¬† The collagen production boosting and vitamin E ingredients¬†are what drew me in and oh my word, it’s a pleasure to apply.¬† Waking up the day after my skin felt blissfully smooth and I couldn’t wait to apply it again the same evening.
  • Paul & Joe Beauty Primer in Dagree
So, after¬†some¬†leaflet confusion I¬†discovered¬†what¬†this product is and its intrigued me even more.¬† A hydrating beauty primer (I’m listening) with¬†3 types of hyaluronic acid (yes, my skin loves that stuff!)¬†that absorb into the skin at different¬†times¬†during the day to keep¬†my complexion hydrated and boosted at all times (okay – sold!).¬† On first impressions, it definitely does what it says on the tin (bottle) and packs a dewy glow to boot.
  • Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover
Amazingly – get it – this works!¬† Admittedly, I was dubious at first whether a cloth and just water could break down and remove ALL of my make up.¬† (Including foundation.)¬† Even my usual makeup remover still leaves me with panda eyes in the morning.¬† But I was proved utterly wrong when I woke up without looking an inch like¬†Robert Smith.¬† (Joy!)¬† This will come in handy when I stumble in after a night-out and can’t be bother to cleanse, tone, zzzz….

Added Little Extras

When I hear the¬†tune of a Birchbox collaboration, I always look forward to the added little extras and there’s been a few this month.¬† Of course we, as Birchbox subscribers, have come to expect a little discount with the brand collaborator – 20% off at Ohh Dear can tick that off nicely.

On top of that however, for a discounted fee we were also sent the flamingo adorned weekly planner as well as some stickers that are both fabulous.

Birchbox UK January 2018 added extras

The added LOC Shadow sticks were a thank you for recommending a friend who signed up.  Another bonus if you managed to recruit more Birchbox subscribers!

Box round up

Well I think it’s fair to say I’m quite chuffed with this box.¬† Having tried all of the items already I don’t think there’s one weak link in here.¬† Birchbox UK January 2017 – you have started the year on a happy note!

The fun hasn’t ended¬†here either (spoiler alert for next month coming up).¬† Another full-size product will be waiting for us¬†in February’s box¬†in the form of a Keeome (remember them?) Silicone Buff makeup applicator.¬† Give me some of that South Korean beauty good stuff!

Birchbox UK – December 2017

Birchbox_UK_December_2017_unboxing

It’s taken me to receive my Birchbox UK December 2017 box to realise it’s actually December now.¬† December hasn’t creeped up on me; it’s made an unexpected, out-of-nowhere pounce attack!¬† How does a year fly by so quickly?

You might remember last year (in my Birchbox UK December 2016) that I launched my first ever Birchbox giveaway.¬† Well this year I’m doing the same, but stepping up my game a little bit…

Birchbox UK December 2017 unboxing

To end the year, Birchbox UK have declared this month’s theme Life’s Little Treasures.¬† Which links up quite nicely with the beauty products¬†that are typically released this time of year.¬† With the majority of these¬†giving an iridescent sheen or at least a hint of sparkle, they too can look like little treasures too!

Interestingly, Birchbox have collaborated on the box design with Matthew Williamson.¬† A luxury designer I wasn’t aware of, but after a quick google I was soon to become an admirer of his gorgeous prints… like the one on this month’s box.

Samples

Birchbox UK December 2017

Birchbox subscribers had a pick¬†from¬†two full size lip products this month and I couldn’t decide which¬†one to settle for.¬† (So I left it to Birchbox to decide for me…)

One was a rather feisty and festive red from Birchbox created brand LOC (Love of Colour).¬† Whereas the the other was a moisturising lip balm with a natural red tint.¬† Here’s which¬†Birchbox decided I should receive, along with the other samples:

  • Ba√Įja Paris Carmelised Honey Body Scrub
Now this is what I’m talking about when I mentioned festive beauty products!¬† Think of a Christmas themed exfoliator and this would be it.¬† I half expected it to smell of clementines.

Baija Paris Caramelised Honey Body Scrub

  • LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident Cranberry (FULL SIZE!)
After leaving it to Birchbox to decide for me, I’m pretty glad they’ve given me the full-on red lipstick.¬† Despite being matte, LOC lipsticks still seem to be quite creamy and not lacking in colour.
  • Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Clay Mask
Apparently a cult product Рwhich rock must I have been living under to miss this one?  At £39.90, this feels like a sprinkle of luxury in my box.
  • Spectrum Collections B04 Angled Blender Brush (FULL SIZE!)
Another Spectrum brush to add to the collection!¬† The last Spectrum eye brush I received from Birchbox actually trumped¬†one of my Real Techniques brush, so I’m happy to see this in my box.
  • ModelCo Contour Stick
I’ve not read other Birchbox UK December 2017 reviews yet, but I think it’s a nice touch we received the other item from our choice¬†of two Modelco products back in¬†October’s box.¬† Especially as this was another decision I had left to Birchbox, because I couldn’t decide myself.
  • Cargo Blush in Sunset Beach?
Can anyone solve this mystery for me?¬† This item isn’t¬†printed on my leaflet, so I’m not sure if this¬†is a mistake or a pleasant surprise.¬† It’s quite a lovely blush though that could easily double up as a highlighter.

Birchbox UK December 2017 swatches

Box round up

Once again, Birchbox have delivered in sending out a festive mix of samples just in time for the holidays.¬† With two full size items with a total that scrapes just¬†below the price I’ve paid for the box, they’ve¬†finished the year on a happy note.

Already looking ahead, Birchbox UK have already revealed a teaser for next year.¬† (I know, already!¬† I don’t even know what my New Year’s Eve plans are yet…)¬† A choice of two blushes (interestingly in stick form) will¬†be in our January boxes from familiar brand Lord & Berry.

Birchbox UK – November 2017

Birchbox UK November 2017

Birchbox UK November 2017 is a big one Рwith a BIG collaborator -namely Vogue, having found out last month as a teaser on the back of the sample booklet.  (Oh, and my Birchbox is ON time this month.)

I doubt there’s ever been as big collaborator as¬†Vogue and considering the iconic magazine works with hundreds of big brands, this surely means we’ll get some big names in our box too, right?

Birchbox UK November 2017 Unboxing

The theme this month is… THERE IS NO THEME!¬† I had to read the leaflet twice to check this, but yep, there is no theme mentioned.¬† But¬†who needs a theme when you’re collaborating with Vogue?¬†(Honestly, I can’t get over how big this is.)

Vogue¬†celebrated its centenary last year and created¬†their edit of 100 greatest beauty products of all time – and some of these items will appear in our box too!¬† *claps hands excitedly*¬† How exciting!¬† So, let’s get to the good stuff…

Samples

Birchbox UK November 2017

We had the choice of two box designs this month – I chose the one above, obviously,¬†just because it looks more ‘Vogue’ to me, darling.¬† There were¬†no teasers of which products may surprise us inside from last month’s box, which built anticipation!¬† (For me, anyway.)¬† Here’s what I got:

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Percy & Reed Smooth, Sealed & Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Birchbox Brush Cleaner (FULL SIZE!)

Wow, okay, where to begin?¬†¬†I hadn’t heard of Klorane before, but from only trying¬†the dry shampoo, quickly and whilst filming my unboxing, I’m already considering buying it full size.¬† Many dry shampoos can leave my scalp feeling a bit itchy, but this really felt like it was gentle to my skin whilst soaking up unwanted grease too.¬† (Sorry if that’s TMI.)

I was very happy to see the¬†L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream as it is¬†tipped to be¬†one of the best in the industry.¬† I’m receiving this at¬†a perfect time of year too, my hands are at their driest when the temperature drops, so it’s brilliant I’ll now be equipped with this.

Whilst Benefit is a¬†brand¬†that isn’t¬†a stranger to Birchbox subscribers, it’s still a pretty big deal to receive the praised cult Hoola Bronzer.¬† (Even if it is sample size.)

Added Little Extras…

Birchbox UK November 2017

With all big collaborations, Birchbox are good to us and usually slip us another little offer.  This month, Birchbox subscribers have been given 6 complimentary issues of Vogue magazine, when buying a one-year or two-year subscription.

Box Round Up

Well wasn’t this a very exciting box?¬† And there was even the comeback of a Birchbox lifestyle item too!¬† Although I didn’t receive it in my Birchbox UK November 2017, I was quite impressed to see other subscribers getting a Clarins hand cream too.¬† (I love Clarins, you lucky devils.)

December is always a strong box and the only teaser Birchbox have given us so far is on the back of this month’s leaflet.¬† In the next few weeks we’ll have to make choice out of a festive lipstick; a classic party red, or a nicely natural tint?¬† Decisions, decisions…
