New Purchases Show & Tell – June 2018

New purchases show & tell june 2018

It feels like it’s been a while… I’ve been trying to post a video every day in June, which has consumed all of my spare time. So it’s nice to sit down, with my laptop, and write a blog post for once. In other words, let’s get started on my New Purchases Show & Tell June 2018, shall we?

June marks the first day of summer and we (as in me and my boyfriend) have definitely bought something this month to celebrate that. Otherwise I’ve picked up a few beauty purchases too, despite shopping in Sephora while I was in America.

Summer, summer time…

Outback Charcoal Kettle Charcoal Barbeque – 26 seconds
What could be more summery than buying a flippin’ barbeque?! This cool little red Outback model can fit nineteen burgers in it too! We’ve already christened it by hosting our first family BBQ the other weekend and it was a success. Plus I didn’t have to worry about doing the cooking.

Percy & Reed No Oil Oil – 1:27 minutes in
Here’s number one of the beauty products I wasn’t expecting to buy this month. Birchbox were celebrating their 5th birthday and were offering a little discount to their subscribers, so obviously I took them up on it. This is a styling oil, rather than a finishing oil, and doubles up as a heat protectant too.

New Purchases Show & Tell 2018

ModelCo Mega Lash Mascara – 2:18 minutes in
I also bagged this mascara from ModelCo with the Birchbox discount code. Although it’s your normal, run-of-the-mill mascara, it does give a nice fluttery effect to lashes, the main reason I bought it is because it does not smudge! Seriously. And that is like gold dust for mascara.

DIORSHOW ICONIC Overcurl Mascara – 2:36 minutes in
So yeah, I bought another mascara. If it’s any excuse this was a repurchase because this is probably one of my favourites I’ve tried so far, in my life. Now this one does give you good volume that is out of the ordinary. My lashes stay curled throughout the day/night too, as the name suggets. I didn’t film any footage in the above video, but I did here.

Urban Decay All Nighter Make up Setting Spray – 3:11 minutes in
This is a new product for me, one I haven’t tried previously. I’m quite looking forward to trying it if only because it receives some bloody brilliant reviews! I’m also quite intrigued to see if it has any over effect to my make up, other than prolonging its wear. I can feel a full review brewing…

Emma Gannon Multi-Hyphen book

The Multi-Hyphen Method by Emma Gannon – 3:36 minutes in
I discovered Emma Gannon last year, then binged-listened (if that’s a thing) to her podcast and read her first book of the same name, Ctrl Alt Delete. She’s just released her second book about how there’s not just one career path anymore, or even one job title that people can refer to themselves as. It’s next on my reading list so WILL be appearing on my Reading Challenge. Stay tuned.

Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Spot Wand – 4:40 minutes in
I kind of hope you haven’t noticed, but I’ve been suffering with acne in the past couple of months. Concentrated around my chin/jaw area, it could be the wrong cleanser I was using (which I’ve since binned) or just my hormones playing havoc with my skin. I’ve yet to work out what’s caused it and sadly my skincare regime alone hasn’t moved it. For a spot treatment so cheap (£4.49) this little wand is so effective. Again, I should probably dedicate a review to it!

Next month…

Last July, I shared some presents I bought for my boyfriend’s 30th. This year he’s already made a pitch for his birthday present; a certain golf club. This isn’t exactly of interest to me, I doubt it’ll be of interest to any readers of this blog either, so I won’t be including it in next month’s New Purchases Show & Tell.

I can’t say I’ve planned what I’ll be buying this month though, which is a change. Hopefully we can buy another thing for the house and I can finally get round to buying some summer updates, in the form of clothes. (Like a particular shirt, if a particular sports team bring it home… ahem…)

I have not been asked, sponsored or paid to review any of these products. I just like to shop!

Birchbox UK – April 2018

April is the first full month of spring and conjures up images of blooming flowers with clear blue skies. But at least we have a heat wave of sorts on the horizon (BBQ anyone?). Oh look, I’ve started a Birchbox post describing the weather again. (Sadly last month it was the beast from the east that introduced my post!)

My point is… Birchbox UK April 2018 have all the springtime feels wrapped up in its box this month. With a totally appropriate brand as the bow on top, too.

Unboxing: Birchbox UK April 2018

Officially, this month’s theme is ‘Brighten Up Your Day’. But the bigger deal is that Birchbox UK have collaborated with Cath Kidston to celebrate their 25th birthday! Spring time, flowers and blue skies? Cath Kidston’s prints are ALL about that. It’s no wonder the brand were born in this month.

In their promises to deliver ‘a little sunshine to your month’, Birchbox UK April 2018 have delivered us 5 unique beauty treats…

  • Cath Kidston Hand Cream
Well I wasn’t expecting this! Although I’m fully aware of Cath Kidston, I’m not a regular customer to their brand (no diss, that’s just the way it is) so I had no idea they made hand cream! This smells lovely, with a fragrance of with jasmine and orange flower, which is a Birchbox exclusive too.
  • ModelCo Baked Highlighter
Now this sample I was expecting, as Birchbox subscribers were given the choice of two colours before receiving the box. I went for Moonshine, which gives a subtle rose pink glow.
  • Lumene Overnight Bright Sleeping Cream
Since receiving the Thermaliv Night Cream in January’s box, I’ve grown accustomed to night creams. This sounds just as dreamy too with Cloudberry seed extract, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. (Hmm I feel sleepy all ready…)
  • Hask Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner
Just what my hair needs right now; a ultra-restorative, revitalising, re-hydrating deep conditioner! (My weekend pamper session is sorted.)
  • Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel (FULL SIZE!)
And to top it off… a full-size product worth £8.60, just short of the total price of my box. What’s great about these brow gels is that they keet your brows neat and tidy, whilst the colour adds structure to your face too.

Added little extra: As is the usual protocol when Birchbox collaborate with brands, we’ve been treated to 15% discount at Cath Kidston! In-store and online, with plenty of time to peruse any treats. (until 31st May).

Box round up

Birchbox UK April 2018 has continued to add a little sunshine to our month… but I knew last month’s box was going to be hard to beat. (Still the best box this year so far, IMHO.) I think they’ve really delivered on the brand collaboration front though, and there’s the right balance between beauty, hair and skincare.

SPOILER FOR NEXT MONTH: Our May sneak peak printed on the back of the accompanying leaflet see’s the return of New York brand Doucce. We received their punk mascara (way back in May 2017), which delivered on lashes with VOLUME. This time we’ll be given a choice of two different coloured lip stains. Let’s hope they can deliver on lip colour too…

Birchbox UK – December 2017

It’s taken me to receive my Birchbox UK December 2017 box to realise it’s actually December now.  December hasn’t creeped up on me; it’s made an unexpected, out-of-nowhere pounce attack!  How does a year fly by so quickly?

You might remember last year (in my Birchbox UK December 2016) that I launched my first ever Birchbox giveaway.  Well this year I’m doing the same, but stepping up my game a little bit…

Birchbox UK December 2017 unboxing

To end the year, Birchbox UK have declared this month’s theme Life’s Little Treasures.  Which links up quite nicely with the beauty products that are typically released this time of year.  With the majority of these giving an iridescent sheen or at least a hint of sparkle, they too can look like little treasures too!

Interestingly, Birchbox have collaborated on the box design with Matthew Williamson.  A luxury designer I wasn’t aware of, but after a quick google I was soon to become an admirer of his gorgeous prints… like the one on this month’s box.

Birchbox UK December 2017

Birchbox subscribers had a pick from two full size lip products this month and I couldn’t decide which one to settle for.  (So I left it to Birchbox to decide for me…)

One was a rather feisty and festive red from Birchbox created brand LOC (Love of Colour).  Whereas the the other was a moisturising lip balm with a natural red tint.  Here’s which Birchbox decided I should receive, along with the other samples:

  • Baïja Paris Carmelised Honey Body Scrub
Now this is what I’m talking about when I mentioned festive beauty products!  Think of a Christmas themed exfoliator and this would be it.  I half expected it to smell of clementines.

Baija Paris Caramelised Honey Body Scrub

  • LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident Cranberry (FULL SIZE!)
After leaving it to Birchbox to decide for me, I’m pretty glad they’ve given me the full-on red lipstick.  Despite being matte, LOC lipsticks still seem to be quite creamy and not lacking in colour.
  • Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin Purifying Clay Mask
Apparently a cult product – which rock must I have been living under to miss this one?  At £39.90, this feels like a sprinkle of luxury in my box.
  • Spectrum Collections B04 Angled Blender Brush (FULL SIZE!)
Another Spectrum brush to add to the collection!  The last Spectrum eye brush I received from Birchbox actually trumped one of my Real Techniques brush, so I’m happy to see this in my box.
  • ModelCo Contour Stick
I’ve not read other Birchbox UK December 2017 reviews yet, but I think it’s a nice touch we received the other item from our choice of two Modelco products back in October’s box.  Especially as this was another decision I had left to Birchbox, because I couldn’t decide myself.
  • Cargo Blush in Sunset Beach?
Can anyone solve this mystery for me?  This item isn’t printed on my leaflet, so I’m not sure if this is a mistake or a pleasant surprise.  It’s quite a lovely blush though that could easily double up as a highlighter.

Box round up

Once again, Birchbox have delivered in sending out a festive mix of samples just in time for the holidays.  With two full size items with a total that scrapes just below the price I’ve paid for the box, they’ve finished the year on a happy note.

Already looking ahead, Birchbox UK have already revealed a teaser for next year.  (I know, already!  I don’t even know what my New Year’s Eve plans are yet…)  A choice of two blushes (interestingly in stick form) will be in our January boxes from familiar brand Lord & Berry.
