Birchbox UK – July 2018

Birchbox UK July 2018 unboxing

Summer is well and truly here; we’ve hosted our first BBQ (summer wins) and I got sunburnt in the process (summer fails). So I wonder what Birchbox UK July 2018 has in store for us subscribers this month…

Summer months and Christmas are the only two times of the year where Birchbox can really create a seasonal sample selection. (A bit of unintentional sibilance there.) I remember a few years ago my Birchbox for July (maybe 2015?) contained a Benefit sun screen, a soothing after-sun and a glittery summer-inspired eyeshadow trio. I can’t remember the other items, but my point is that it was all very summery.

Birchbox UK July 2018 unboxing video

Last month, I went live on YouTube for the first time (!!!) to unbox June’s box. It’s back to the usual programming this month though, with a normal edited video. (Let me know which you prefer?)

There’s no real hints of the theme Say Yes to Adventure from the pastel pink designed box. However the clue as to why this is the theme actually lies in the offer available to Birchbox subscribers this month, which I’ll discuss in the moment. First; let’s dissect the samples.

Samples

I was looking for summer skincare and makeup, which I think I’ve received in *maybe* some of the items in Birchbox UK July 2018.

  • Manna Kadar Long-Wear Powder (FULL-SIZE!)
I’ll start with the product we knew we’d be receiving. Birchbox subscribers were given the choice out of two shades of Manna Kadar’s Long-Wear Powder. One called Paradise, a deep coral pink, or Trifecta, more of a bronze-y brown. I opted for the bronzer option, as it could be used as an eyeshadow too. Using only my fingers it feels very soft, which suggests it’s both buildable and blendable (if that’s a word).Birchbox UK July 2018 samples
  • Klorane Floral Water Makeup Remover
Although it’s not especially summer focused, I’m pleased to see another Klorane product. I received their famous dry shampoo back in November and have been intrigued by the brand since. Micellar waters are always nice to try, too.
  • Vita Liberata Body Blur
Oh my god! I’ve heard about this product and I was REALLY excited to see it in my box. This is basically a skin tint – think Rimmel Skin Tint (which I use to be extremely loyal to), an instant tanner. Although the blurring effect looks amazing. My only disappointment is that I’ve received a medium-dark, which will be too dark for me, why Birchbox!¬†ūüėę
  • What’s in it for me…? Shower Scrub
With self-tanning, or just normal tanning, a good scrub matters. So I’m quite happy to see this in here, although I’ve not heard of the brand before and probably would’ve mixed it up with This Works without a closer look. Regardless, the ingredients sound scrumptious!

  • Browcote Waterproof Brow Gel (FULL-SIZE!)
Did you ever try Lipcote? Usually found next to the fake nails in Boots, it’s a clear liquid you apply to your lips after lipstick to keep the colour locked in. I’m not sure how long this product has been around, but it kept my brows neat and tame all day since I applied it during the video.

Added Little Extras

As I mentioned, the theme began to make sense when I spotted the offer leaflet at the bottom of my box, sitting underneath all the samples. This month Birchbox subscribers have been given 25% off their next stay at one of the Generator Hostel in either Venice, Barcelona, Madrid, Hamburg and Copenhagen. Not bad! (I was thinking of going on a weekend trip to Copenhagen too…)

Box Round-Up

I’ve failed to say so far that there are TWO full size items in this box! Amounting to way over the total of my box at ¬£21.99, which feels pretty satisfying. Although speaking strictly design and overall theme, I think more could have been done with the adventure message. Especially to promote the great offer inside! (Alas, I speak only as someone who works in marketing…)

As for a Birchbox UK August 2018 teaser… expect to receive another full size item in the form of a Dirty Little Secret Eyeshadow Crayon. Bonus.

Birchbox UK – June 2018

Birchbox UK June 2018 unboxing

Last month we went through ALL of the emotions and come-downs of the Royal Wedding (can we do it all again please, Megan and Harry?). So already Birchbox UK June 2018 has a lot to contend with. What a clever move Birchbox has made then to carry on the British celebrations into this month as well.

But there’s another good reason to celebrate, as Birchbox is turning the ripe age of 5 years old this month too. Plus I have a lot going on in June (mostly me trying to post out a video every day over on my channel.) So there’s plenty going on to bide us time until the next royal wedding (which won’t be for a few decades yet, but, ya know).

Birchbox UK June 2018 video

So to celebrate my Every Day June bonanza and to save time on video editing, I decided to go LIVE on YouTube this month by unboxing my Birchbox UK June 2018 limited edition tin box! (This was also my first ever live YouTube video, eep.)

The tin box is definitely a first. Since I become a subscriber way back in 2014 (4 years ago – eek!), I’ve never received a tin box Birchbox. So this combined with a British tea party theme is just splendid. (I’m still on a high after the Royal Wedding and I’m all for Britishness at the moment.)

Samples

A 5th anniversary is a big milestone, so do the samples we received reflect that and a British tea party theme? Find out below…

  • Ella Eden Compact Eyeshaow (FULL SIZE!)
As ever, I’ll start with the product I knew I was receiving. Last month I had the choice between two colours of a full-size Ella Eden eyeshadow; a brown named Faith, or a muted pink called Julia. I opted for Julia, but as you can probably see, I’ve had a bit of an accident since filming my live! Sadly I dropped it on the floor, resulting in smashing it to pieces, although I did save some of this sparkly pink for the swatch below…Ella Eden Compact Eyeshaow in Julia
  • Benefit POREfessional Pearl Primer
It wouldn’t be a Birchbox celebration without a Benefit sample now would it! I’ve said before how Benefit and Birchbox have a good partnership going, so I’m pleased to see this in my box. I’ve not tried the hyped up original POREfessional, so I can’t compare but I’m all about the added radiance.
  • Whittard of Chelsea Teabags
So this is where the tea party theme comes in! I received three selections to try; Earl Grey (a quintessential favourite everyone knows and loves), a remedial Lemon & Ginger, and a fruity Mango & Bergamot too.
  • Number 4 Jour d’automne Smoothing Balm
This brand has cropped up a couple of times in my Birchbox over the years and I’ve usually been pleased with their products, so Number 4 isn’t an unwanted face (to this tea party haha). I can tell you that it smells absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to try this properly with damp hair. (It’s a heat protectant too!)Birchbox UK June 2018
  • Polaar Velvety Sun Fluid Face & Body
I’m pleased to see a SPF in here! I’m quite pasty, so I take sun care seriously (I have to, otherwise I burn). With my skin being sensitive as well I find it helps to sometimes spending a little bit more on sunscreen, as it means I won’t break out (on my face) and irritate my skin.
  • Lord & Berry Strobing Highlighter Pencil
An interesting product, that still has me pondering why this wasn’t made as a stick, instead of a pencil? It will help with highlighting the areas around my eyes though.

Box Round Up

The tin box was definitely a treat! I do agree that some of the samples seem a bit laid back for a celebration though, but they’re all quite useful to me, albeit in a low-key way. If only I hadn’t dropped the full-size eyeshadow, which was more than the total of my box, I’d have been more happy with Birchbox UK June 2018.

Another full-size product is on the horizon too (as in next month’s box). As Birchbox subscribers, we’ll be given a choice out of two long wear powders (in blush-like colours) from Manna Kadar, another returning brand. I wonder what we’ll be celebrating then…

Birchbox UK – March 2018

Birchbox UK March 2018 unboxing

I have no complaints with Birchbox UK March 2018 telling me to sit back and relax.¬† We started this month with SNOWMAGEDDON (or ‘the beast from the east’ vs storm Emma). If you, like me, were one of the unlucky souls who tried to drive in this insane weather, then you’ll know the beauty of just sitting back and relaxing at home.¬† (Thank god for working at home, hallelujah technology!)

Of course Birchbox have a slightly different slant which is behind this month’s theme.¬† Instead of looking back (like last month’s 70s, 80s, 90s theme), this month is all about looking within.¬† A bit hippie-ish yes, but this box seriously has you sorted for a proper pamper sesh.

Birchbox UK March 2018 unboxing

I’ve already spoken a bit about the theme behind Birchbox UK March 2018, but officially it’s named; Be Present, Not Perfect.¬† Basically this is telling us the importance of ‘me time’ and being more mindful.

I can’t find any important dates in the month of March that can explain Birchbox’s move on this.¬† (Maybe International Woman’s Day, at a push?)¬† But who cares, obviously caring and looking after yourself should be a priority all year round.

Birchbox UK March 2018 samples

Samples

So how does being more mindful relate to beauty products?  Birchbox lays down the first step which is to sit back and relax with the following five beauty treats:

    • Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara
Birchbox and Benefit have a good thing going on – meaning they basically treat Birchbox subscribers to a sample of their latest product!¬† Benefit mascaras are considered the best (they’re certainly a strong contender).¬† I liked this mascara, but I wouldn’t agree that it was volumising though.¬† Regardless, this still gives a big impact to lashes.
    • BLAQ Peel Off Mask
We were given a choice this month between two Blaq products; a peel off mask or an eye mask.¬† The peel off mask was a winner for me because logically I’ll get more uses out of it (over the eye mask) and oh my god these charcoal masks look just so satisfying to peel off.
    • GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Clearing Mask Treatment
Another OH MY GOD moment.¬† I noticed Glamglow sliding into the Birchbox shop, but I didn’t expect to receive a sample in my box!¬† I am so stoked to receive this, honestly.¬† If you’ve not heard of Glamglow then you’ve missed out on one of the biggest cult beauty products in the last year.¬† I can’t wait to try this!¬† (This might even deserve its own separate review on here.)
    • Nuxe Reve de Miel Body Scrub
Every Nuxe item I’ve received has been a banger.¬† Since receiving the Nuxe Cr√®me Prodigieuse Enrichie (moisturiser) in my Birchbox in November 2016 (whoa, that was ages ago), it’s become one of my skincare staples.¬† So I have high hopes for this scrub!
    • Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray
Did you see the result this left my hair in the video?¬† Need I say more…

I was also lucky to have received the Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer.¬† Although this wasn’t explained anywhere in the box, I think I’ve received this as an extra because someone couldn’t resist signing up to Birchbox through my referral link (which I will leave at the end of this post, if you’re interested).

Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer Hi-Speed Sonnet

Box round up

WELL, Birchbox UK March 2018 has been the BEST Birchbox of the year so far, imho.¬† No seriously, every product here has been so strong in terms of branding and type of product.¬† I’ve been so excited about receiving these products I’ve written this post without even trying some of them yet – just because I wanted to get this out to you asap!

SPOILER ALERT!¬† We’ve already received an April sneak peak at the back of our leaflet this month, which reveals the choice of a ModelCo Baked Highlighter.¬† Spring is definitely on its way in our April box judging by our two choices (between Frose or Moonshine).¬† Can it beat this month’s box, though?

Here’s my Birchbox referral link, where you can get 50% off your first box!

Birchbox UK – February 2018

Birchbox UK February 2018 unboxing

Where are we in the year?¬† February is the time of the year when¬†L O V E (Valentine’s or Galentine’s) and pancakes start getting our attention. But Birchbox UK February 2018¬†wants to point us¬†towards beauty in decades past.

From 70’s bronzing, 80’s neon colours and 90’s glitter – there’s plenty¬†of beauty looks to¬†look back on¬†and inspire us.¬† (Or to avoid at all cost.)¬† After all, some beauty looks really have stood test of time.¬† Find out which of those might be included in this month’s box!

Birchbox UK February 2018 unboxing

True beauty is timeless is the theme behind the three different box designs this month, representing three different decades that we were given the choice between.

Usually¬†I’d class myself as a 70s girl (based on my music taste and¬†style preference).¬† Surprisingly¬†though I felt more drawn to the 80s box¬†by its design, so that’s the box I chose.¬† But it’s okay, the 80s still has David Bowie.¬† (Plus Modern Love, my favourite David Bowie song, was born in the 80s after all… Oh and I was born in the 80s too, come to think of it.)

Birchbox UK February 2018 samples

Samples

With a theme that looks back on beauty through the ages, will this be reflected in the sample selection for Birchbox UK February 2018?¬† There’s only one way to find out:

  • The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio (FULL SIZE!)
I’m not surprised to see an eyeshadow trio to represent beauty of¬†this decade,¬†but it’s a shocker that there¬†isn’t a neon purple or pink shade!¬† (Proper 80s eyeshadow shades!)¬† Thankfully Birchbox have brought¬†more wearable colours from¬†past decades for us to wear¬†in the modern¬†day.¬† Although I do see a hint of purple in the darkest colour¬†of this set!¬† (It wouldn’t be 80s without some purple…)
  • Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm (FULL-SIZE!)
I knew¬†a bright fuchsia pink would be somewhere in this box…¬† I’m just relieved¬†it’s in a lip colour!¬† Regardless of colour, being a lip balm too makes¬†it particularly useful for me¬†at¬†this time of year.¬† (80s themed or not!)
  • Percy & Reed Finishing Polish
Hair.¬† Another big 80’s look and it was¬†all about¬†the BIG hair.¬† Again another surprise from this box was that the hair product wasn’t¬†either a hairspray or mouse!¬† But to be honest, I’d have preferred a finishing polish anyway.¬† Luckily I¬†curled my hair before filming my unboxing, which perfectly shows how this little number can add a final sheen to a styled look!

Birchbox UK February 2018

  • Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask
I’m pretty sure hair masks weren’t a thing of the 80s, but by now I’ve realised a lot of these products¬†were in the other decade’s boxes, so¬†these samples aren’t specific to the decades.¬† Well, the majority of them aren’t anyway.¬† Besides, it’s always nice to try a spendy hair mask…
  • Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream
Balance Me have been impressing me recently with their products.¬† Although it’s a brand we see regularly in Birchbox that’s not to say I don’t enjoy their products.¬† Since receiving this eye cream I’ve been applying it day and night and my tired winter eyes already feel and look ‘smoothed’.¬† Maybe I do need some eye cream in my beauty regime…

Box round up

Hold the phone – do you remember in last month’s box round up I spoke about the full-size Keeome silicone buff makeup applicator as the February sneak peak?¬† Well looks like that never materialised…¬† (Anyone know why?)

I’d class this box as satisfactory, although¬†I should give¬†it¬†more merit as I did receive 2 full-size items totalling over the price I paid for the box.¬† I am quite looking forward to next month’s box though, namely because the March sneak peak shows that we’ll be receiving a charcoal face mask, which looks like¬†the kind that will be an¬†absolute pleasure to peel off!¬†(And I wonder if¬†that full-size¬†Keeome applicator will show up too…)

Birchbox UK – November 2017

Birchbox UK November 2017

Birchbox UK November 2017 is a big one Рwith a BIG collaborator -namely Vogue, having found out last month as a teaser on the back of the sample booklet.  (Oh, and my Birchbox is ON time this month.)

I doubt there’s ever been as big collaborator as¬†Vogue and considering the iconic magazine works with hundreds of big brands, this surely means we’ll get some big names in our box too, right?

Birchbox UK November 2017 Unboxing

The theme this month is… THERE IS NO THEME!¬† I had to read the leaflet twice to check this, but yep, there is no theme mentioned.¬† But¬†who needs a theme when you’re collaborating with Vogue?¬†(Honestly, I can’t get over how big this is.)

Vogue¬†celebrated its centenary last year and created¬†their edit of 100 greatest beauty products of all time – and some of these items will appear in our box too!¬† *claps hands excitedly*¬† How exciting!¬† So, let’s get to the good stuff…

Samples

Birchbox UK November 2017

We had the choice of two box designs this month – I chose the one above, obviously,¬†just because it looks more ‘Vogue’ to me, darling.¬† There were¬†no teasers of which products may surprise us inside from last month’s box, which built anticipation!¬† (For me, anyway.)¬† Here’s what I got:

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Percy & Reed Smooth, Sealed & Sensational Volumising No Oil Oil
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Birchbox Brush Cleaner (FULL SIZE!)

Wow, okay, where to begin?¬†¬†I hadn’t heard of Klorane before, but from only trying¬†the dry shampoo, quickly and whilst filming my unboxing, I’m already considering buying it full size.¬† Many dry shampoos can leave my scalp feeling a bit itchy, but this really felt like it was gentle to my skin whilst soaking up unwanted grease too.¬† (Sorry if that’s TMI.)

I was very happy to see the¬†L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream as it is¬†tipped to be¬†one of the best in the industry.¬† I’m receiving this at¬†a perfect time of year too, my hands are at their driest when the temperature drops, so it’s brilliant I’ll now be equipped with this.

Whilst Benefit is a¬†brand¬†that isn’t¬†a stranger to Birchbox subscribers, it’s still a pretty big deal to receive the praised cult Hoola Bronzer.¬† (Even if it is sample size.)

Added Little Extras…

Birchbox UK November 2017

With all big collaborations, Birchbox are good to us and usually slip us another little offer.  This month, Birchbox subscribers have been given 6 complimentary issues of Vogue magazine, when buying a one-year or two-year subscription.

Box Round Up

Well wasn’t this a very exciting box?¬† And there was even the comeback of a Birchbox lifestyle item too!¬† Although I didn’t receive it in my Birchbox UK November 2017, I was quite impressed to see other subscribers getting a Clarins hand cream too.¬† (I love Clarins, you lucky devils.)

December is always a strong box and the only teaser Birchbox have given us so far is on the back of this month’s leaflet.¬† In the next few weeks we’ll have to make choice out of a festive lipstick; a classic party red, or a nicely natural tint?¬† Decisions, decisions…
