New Purchases Show & Tell – July 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell July 2017

I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I started this series!  My New Purchases Show & Tell July 2017 officially marks the series’ first anniversary and yes, I have decided to celebrate.  (By hosting a giveaway competition no less – keep reading to find out how you can enter!)

This month I had my boyfriends 30th birthday (yes the big 3-0!).  After much planning (and sneaking around), his parents and I managed to create a 30th birthday photo book!  It was such a great present to make and I couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when I finally gave it to him.

Other than that, I’ve been making the usual I-probably-shouldn’t-be-spending-money-on-this purchases…  So let’s delve in!

New Purchases Show & Tell July 2017

Truprint Photo Book – 26 seconds in
Okay so I’ve already gushed about this, but I’m honestly quite pleased on how it turned out.  I think this makes a great gift idea for those big birthdays, or even other occasions in fact.  Using Truprint was easy as there’s pre-arranged layouts you can drop your photos into.  You can add text, illustrations and filters too and it is so much quicker than making a homemade scrapbook!

ASOS Flery Leather Flat Sandals – 1:19 minutes in
Is it just me who’s been putting off wearing sandals?  I just felt my feet looked weird flat and I’d never give up my comfy trainers.  However, when the weather really heated up a month of so ago, even my trainers were too hot to wear.  I caved in and you know what, sandals are so much cooler (I know, shock) and I guess my exposed feet don’t look that weird when they’re flat?

TopShop Bag -1:57 minutes in
How classy is this bag?  I picked this up in the TopShop sale in store, I can’t find it on the website.  I find I wear these over the shoulder bags the most and this one is a great size for my essentials; namely my purse (it’s a massive one), phone and keys!

H&M Short Shorts – 2:26 minutes in
I tend to show off the cute dresses, going out outfits and fashionable clothes I buy in my New Purchases Show & Tell series.  But lo and behold – a casual just-for-round-the-house item has finally made it in!  If I’m not planning to see another human being ALL DAY then this is something I tend wear with a t-shirt.  Ahh, so comfy.

H&M Spotted Dress – 2:43 minutes in
H&M have really hooked me back in recently, in a big way.  As I’ve said previously on this series, I felt for a long time I just wasn’t inspired by any of their clothes.  But now things have changed and they’re going back up in my standards!  I think this dress is just so cute, and it was only £14.99.  (!)

Truprint Photobook review

ASOS PETITE Mini Tea Dress – 2:58 minutes in
I feel like if you don’t snatch something up on ASOS lately then you’re chance is gone!  ASOS must be doing seriously well atm… Anyway, I’m probably not short of your typical floral dress, but I bought one just in case and I feel like I could wear this to work too.

ASOS PETITE Denim Shirt – 3:16 minutes in
I have been on the hunt for a denim shirt for what feels like an age.  I’ve tried plenty on, but just felt like I got a bit fussy with them.  I didn’t want any embellishments, frays or crazy embroidery… and ASOS once again delivered. (The next day too!)

GIVEAWAY & Next Month…

New_Purchases_Show_&_Tell_July_2017

Right, onto the GOOD stuff!  As I’ve been dutifully filming and blogging my series for a year now, I want to mark the anniversary with a celebratory giveaway!  I’m giving away a £30 Spotify voucher (which I know doesn’t sound like much, but that’s 3 months of Spotify Premium people!)

To enter: please comment on my New Purchases Show & Tell July 2017 video here – and that’s it! If you’re not sure what to comment I have asked for which item you’ve enjoyed the most watching in this WHOLE series.  Or you could recommend me something you think I might like?

Plus, I’ll give you an extra chance of winner if you’re a reader of my blog – comment here too for an extra entry!   The winner will be announced in my next New Purchases Show & Tell video and over on my Facebook page.  (Link below if you haven’t done so yet!)

As we’re already well into “next month”, I have a pretty good idea on what is coming up – WEDDING GUEST DRESSES!  And spray tans…

I have not been asked, sponsored or paid to review any of these products.  I just like to shop!

Birchbox UK – August 2017

Bircbox UK August 2017

Waking up this past Saturday I was expecting a few things to happen.  I was expecting my hangover from the night before (I’d been day drinking at a wedding – that never bodes well).  I was also expecting it to rain, which it did, thunderously on my way to the hairdressers.  What I wasn’t expecting was my Birchbox UK August 2017 to bouncily arrive on time, if not early, through my door.

Whilst the palm trees and sunshine feels were back in last month’s Birchbox, seeing its arrival no doubt cheered me up, despite the weather and the hangover.

Birchbox UK August 2017 Unboxing

It’s hard to avoid the theme with printed scales all over this month’s box.  For August, it’s all about ‘Mermaid Vibes’.  However, it’s not the first time I’ve seen a Birchbox theme to be inspired by mermaids, I’ve got to say.

Back in November 2015 (throwback!), a box of a very similar colour scheme was adorned in mermaid-esque shells, or clams, whatever you’d like to call them.  Although in spite of this the theme was confusingly labelled ‘squad goals’ – nothing at all to do with mermaids.  Still, there’s no complaints from me, Skinny Dip collaborated with Birchbox those many months ago and I got some money off my own mermaid inspired shell bag!

Bircbox UK August 2017

I knew from last month’s teaser that we’d be given a full size Spectrum Collections make up brush.  (This makes the third one in my Birchbox subscription history.)  As for the other products;

Spectrum Collections A05 (FULL SIZE!)
Nuxe Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer
Vita Coco Coconut Oil
Number 4 Sugar Texturizing Spray
LOC One and Done Shadow Stick (FULL SIZE!)

Going back to my expectations for the weekend, I wasn’t expecting Birchbox to please me as much as it did either!

Alright so I knew about the Spectrum Collections brush, I opted for the pink colour choice (the brush is available in different colours, depending on which set it belongs to).  The brush has multiple uses, all of which involve the finishing touches in make up application; applying highlighter, bronzer or even setting powder.

As soon as I caught a glimpse of the Nuxe Dry Oil Shimmer I was really excited about trying it.  I had my eyes on this for a while and it might just have MADE this box for me.  On initial swatches and application (above!) this provides a gorgeous, subtle shimmer.  Perfect for those summer spray tans I pan on getting (or already have, if you haven’t noticed).

The LOC Shadow Stick was also a complete surprise too.  Being a brand created by Birchbox themselves, we do get treated sometimes with their full size products.  This is such a wearable colour in my opinion and I will be putting the ’11 hour wear’ claim to the test.

Box Round-Up

I think Birchbox UK August 2017 has delivered yet another great box.  Once again there’s a varied mix of products with not one feeling like a weak link. We’re still on a roll too with receiving a full size product in every box since April!  (Correction: two full size products in this box, totalling £14.99.)

Next month will bring (divert your eyes if you want avoid to avoid any spoilers now) another product from Manna Kadar Cosmetics.  (Don’t remember?  Look back to Birchbox UK April 2017.)  I was impressed with the last item I received, so I’m taking this as only as good news…

New Purchases Show & Tell – June 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017

Let’s just start by saying June was a busy month for me, it seems like my New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017 came round so soon!

Regrettably, I’ve not been able to post much this month either.  At the start of June I went to see Gorillaz at the Demon Dayz Festival in Margate.  This was such a perfect day that kicked off my summer!  Unfortunately I was snatched of the opportunity to blog/vlog though, in fear I might have my camera taken from me.  (No cameras were allowed at the event!  An absolute shocker.)

A week or so later and I attended the almighty Glastonbury festival, my third time at Worthy Farm and once again it didn’t disappoint.  Although this is another event I’d love to blog/vlog, this one is sadly overridden by my worry of causing irreversible damage to my camera through my own clumsiness.  (And needing a spare battery…)

New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017 flat lay

Then, no sooner had I returned to work, trying to adjust back into reality, I had to travel to the Netherlands on a work trip!  So needless to say after this long introduction, I haven’t been buying a helluva lot either this month.  I.e. I’m broke.

Although my New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017 may look sparse to previous months, I do hope the handful of purchases I have bought will still interest you!

New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017

Just a few extra notes on the above…

Rimmel London Super Gel Polish – 28 seconds in
Just like filming/writing this, these nail varnishes caught me by surprise.  At no point did I believe the 14 day chip free claim, until my nails survived GLASTONBURY!  Despite that I’ve not properly tested this, it’s an act of god itself that I didn’t suffer any chips for the whole festival.  Okay, that’s an overstatement, but it’s impressive…

GHD Curve Wand Creative Curl – 1:13 minutes in
Oops, I did it again.  Remember back to my New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017? Yeah well I’ve gone and bought another GHD curling tong.  GHD’s Soft Curl tong is great, although I’m still playing around with it.  I saw the GHD Curve Wand Creative Curl on offer, which is supposedly better for shorter hair.  Clearly I felt the urge to snap it up…

New Purchases Show & Tell June 2017

Darlingside jumper – 1:56 minutes in
One of the bands I was lucky enough to catch at Glastonbury was Darlingside!  I discovered this band earlier this year, when I was randomly listened to BBC Radio 2’s coverage of Celtic Connections.  I just really like the illustration/print on the jumper! It’s quite cosy and warm too.

Bumble & Bumble Summer is in the (H)air set (thick hair) – 2:48 minutes in
Another stonking brand has just launched at Birchbox!  Bumble & Bumble are a brand I’ve never tried, yet I know are well-known to create perfect beachy hair. (In case you haven’t noticed this is something I want need!  After buying two curling tongs…)  Being an expensive brand, I think this is a great way to try out some of their products.  Reviews will follow…

Next month…

July is another busy month for me, namely because it’s the boyfriend’s 30th birthday soon!  And so, a little warning; some of my purchases may be influenced by this.  Other than that, I have at least 3 weddings to attend to after July.  No doubt shopping for wedding guest dresses will begin!

Do you have any suggestions for either of the above?  Let me know in the comments below!

Birchbox UK – May 2017

Birchbox UK May 2017 unboxing

The sad news is my Birchbox UK May 2017 box was late, just like April’s.  The good news is there were two full size items inside!  So I didn’t feel too disappointed.

As my box was late the design wasn’t a surprise to me, thanks to it being plastered all over my Instagram feed.  But luckily most of the samples remained a mystery…

Birchbox UK May 2017

This month’s theme is ‘it’s all in the details‘ and this month Birchbox say they want to zoom into on all the small things in subscriber’s lives. Meaning they want to make little tweaks to our beauty regimes that’ll improve our everyday overall.

That’s not the only tweak Birchbox have made, they’ve actually made a fairly big change to their service; a newly launched loyalty programme!  But first, the samples…

Birchbox UK May 2017 review

Birchbox UK May 2017 had a little to live up to compared to last months box.  Although I knew already one full size item I’d be receiving, I wasn’t expecting a second!  Find out below what I received and click on the links to find out more details:

Marsh Mineral Eyeshadow in Vanilla Frosting (FULL SIZE!)
Whish Firming Body Cream
Kueshi Hair Mask Shine & Volume
Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara
SKIN79 Clean-on 2 Step Nose Pack (FULL SIZE!)

Now for my own little detail with what I thought of the products!  I opted for the Vanilla Frosting colour for the Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow because I already had enough grey/black smokey eyeshadows and eyeshadow sticks.  Plus it’s a great addition for crazy festival make up!

The Marsk eyeshadow also linked up nicely with the mascara.  Doucce are not a brand I know, but I LOVE the fact they’ve described their mascara as punk!

The Whish body cream and Kueshi will be used as usual and might not bring any major revelations to my routine.  However the SKIN79 2 step nose pack looks a lot of fun to me!  I can’t wait to try it.

Hello Birchbox Benefits!

Birchbox UK May 2017 what's inside

I’ve been a Birchbox subscriber now for around three years (I know, three years!) and it was great to hear I was finally going to be rewarded.  Birchbox Benefits is a new loyalty programme that rewards subscribers who’ve been with Birchbox for six months or more!

We get much of the same benefits as all subscribers, such as choosing a product or your box design every month and free delivery when we review our boxes.  But we have these two added little extras too:

  • First Chance to choose our product or box design.
  • 15% off everything in the Birchbox Shop.

Personally, I’m really pleased to see this introduced.  I’m already a big fan of the ASOS points scheme, now if only TopShop would follow suit…

Conclusion

The two full size items in my Birchbox UK May 2017 box add up to an impressive £17,39, more than the total of my box!  It’s hard not to be happy when that happens.

Currently there are absolutely no teasers, clues or hints on what we might have in store for next month’s Birchbox.  Although here’s hoping it’ll arrive on time for me at least!

New Purchases Show & Tell – April 2017

New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017

Forgive me for the following click baity sentence to open this post, but, I think I’ve bought THE BEST purchase I’ve made so far this year!

It’s another purchase getting me excited and ready for summer!  (Although I know that statement is a little premature; it’s freezing right now in England.)

Instead of relying on the weather though, because there’s no guarantee of clear blue skies even in June (oops there’s a clue!), it’s more the memory and smiles it’ll leave behind that I’m most looking forward to…

I can’t contain it much longer, watch my video or read below to find out!

New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017

Don’t worry, I haven’t saved the BEST to last.

Glastonbury Festival 2017 tickets! – 13 seconds in
THIS is the purchase I’m talking about!  When tickets first went on sale last October and myself and my friends unfortunately lucked out, I started to worry this might actually be the year we don’t make it to Glastonbury.  But with a lot of determination (and tapping the refresh button to an inch of its life!) we gave it another shot in the resale and GOT THEM!  I am SO excited, Glastonbury related content may be on the agenda in the next few weeks…

GHD Curve Soft Curl Tong – 1:07 minutes in
I’m also really excited about this purchase.  I’ve been wanting to create that Pinterest worthy hair for a long time and the cheap curling tongs I already had just weren’t cutting it.  Based on the success of my GHD straighteners (that are still going strong after 7 years…) I splashed out on one of the brand’s curling tongs.  So far, so good.  Watch this space for hair tutorials and my full review!

TOPSHOP Petite Embroidered Body – 2:04 minutes in
Looking at this yes I know I may be betting on a good summer, but I couldn’t let this slip away to the dreaded ‘out of stock’ status while I sat around waiting for sunshine.  I’m glad I whipped it up when I did too, as it’s no longer available in TopShop’s Petite range.  When the suns does eventually come out, I’ll happily be pairing this with my Ray-Ban’s.

New Purchases Show & Tell April 2017 flat lay

Clarins Paris Everlasting Foundation – 2:41 minutes in
I hit empty on my last foundation, on the day of a friend’s wedding no less! A dire situation indeed, so I hurried to the nearest beauty counter I could to replace it.  This is my first ever full coverage foundation, which I’ve avoided until now.  I guess I was a bit scared of it looking weird on me, a bit caked on like a china doll?  I don’t go full air hostess mode but I’m starting to come round to a full coverage look.

Freedom Finer Ring Set – 3:28 minutes in
I really thought I’d seen this before, with the amount of times I snoop around TopShop.  But nope, this must have slipped my usual reconnaissance!  I love jewellery that’s more delicate and dainty so I had to buy these when I saw them.  I’ll also be keeping a check at the Freedom stand for other finer jewellery.

The People v O.J. Simpson – 3:55 minutes in
I can’t get my mind off this case.  I heard this was a great series to watch and boy has it sucked me in!  I’ve even got myself and my boyfriend watching the mammoth documentary series O.J.: Made in America – seriously, we’re hooked.  Going back to the People v O.J. Simpson on Netflix though, there’s a brilliant A-list cast who act out this unbelievable story. It’s incredible!

Next month…

As you can probably guess, there’ll be a few Glastonbury bits to add to my list.  Like one of the essentials for Glastonbury is of course a sturdy pair of wellies!  Mine have seen the last two Glastonbury’s, along with other festivals before that and so it might be time to buy a newer pair.  (Should I go Hunter’s?  Leave your comments or suggestions below!)

I have not been asked, sponsored or paid to review any of these products. I just like to shop!
